I just got Tomato, which isn't as full featured as DD-WRT was, but I didn't use those features anyway.
QoS works flawlessly unlike in DD-WRT and it's just plain cooler than DD-WRT! smile1.gif But most importantly, I didn't brick my router wink.gif

Beh. I used DD-WRT on my Linksys WRT54G, it was pretty bitchin. But I had to mvoe back to stock firmware because the DD-WRT was fucking up badly after I updated to .24.

I also have a WRT54GS, but it's nothing special. And DD-WRT doesn't run on my version. sad.gif

ANyway, grats on not bricking your router. I did that once, then dropped in it in the dog water bowl (it was on the counter above it). Next morning we jsut blamed it on the dogs (stupid cords were all over the floor, so it was highly believable.)

Not that I am aware of. But, I assume you (like me) want to shape all traffic except your own. In which case DD-WRT QOS has the ability to ignore shaping for specific IPs. If I remember correctly that is.

You can do shape by both MAC address and IP address in Tomato.

Tomato Supported Devices (Cata beat me to it)

DD-WRT has many more supported devices however a lot of people complain (including me) that the QoS simply does not work like it's supposed to. Furthermore, you can't really limit to 5KB/s but you can give yourself precedence. So it'll be like other's have full bandwidth until you start using bandwidth then it'll reshape to give you more of the bandwidth.

There are other custom firmwares, but my understanding is that DD-WRT and Tomato are the best there is.

I specifically bought my Linksys WRT54GL for its decent RAM and Flash Memory sizes and its ability to be flashed with many different custom firmwares smile.gif

I've also been running Tomato on my Linksys WRT54GL for a few monthes now, I went from DD-WRT, to HyperWRT Thibor, to Tomato. HyperWRT was my favorite but Thibor stopped updating it, DD-WRT used to be good until v23 SP2, after that it seemed to get very bloat-ish and the whole interface is extremely laggy. Tomato is slick, clean, and fast, has all the features I'd use except overclocking, which I liked in DD-WRT.

It just always seemed like I got the most speed and stability from it, also I liked how it was based off the stock firmware, just improved.
