Well I'm going to move to an apartment when the new school year begins. The problem is that most games that I want to play are blocked by the routers firewall, I tried different settings, but the only way they will work is by completely disabling the router's firewall. My sister (which also lives in the apartment with me <___________<;) doesn't want me to turn off the firewall, so I'm trying to figure out how to allow the games to run on the network...

well it's not a windows firewall really... it's a firewall from the router. and I don't think I can convince my sister to turn it off, so I'm going to have to find out another way to bypass it

Check in teh advanced settings to see if there is a DMZ setting. If so, start --> run --> type cmd -- new black command prompt comes up, type ipconfig get your internet ip address (most likely 192.168.xxx.xx) take that number and shove it in the DMZ settings. DMZ takes outside of the firewall on your router. Easiest way to get around it, other than to figure out what ports your games use, and setup a bunch of rules, port forwards, passthrus, ect.

That or don't convince her to turn it off, just do it yourself, and change the modem/router passwd & tell her to get a software firewall. cool.gif

You will need to find out which ports your games use, each game's website should have a page somewhere about firewall settings that will list them. Then you need to run the setup program for the router, and create custom firewall policies for your games' ports.

You can get to the setup program by going to http://192.168.100.1 (from a computer connected to that router, it's not an internet address). The default username and password are are "admin" and "motorola".

Edit: or you can go with Gehasst's idea and use a DMZ. Leaves your pc vulnerable but it's simpler. To do that, go into the setup program and click Gateway then LAN then dhcp leases. There's an option there to designate a DMZ.
