O.o Why is authorization required? The reason I've only uploaded 1 program (AutoAdopter which hasn't been approved yet) is because last time I submitted my programs I was told I needed to add authorization to them. I know a few programmers who don't want their programs to have an auth on them. So why require it? It should be up to the programmer to decide if they want to add auth to their programs.

Btw: When the rule is gone (If ever), I will upload more of my programs.

Edit: Oh and approve my auto adopter. Its starting to annoy me..

Why do so many people have a problem with programs requiring authorization?

When did you submit your AA?

I release my programs on all sites. Why should I waste my time changing the auth for every site?

I submitted it 7 days ago.

I personally would not use a program that didn't have some kind of authorization. The program could have anything in it....whether it be a virus or something that would steal my account info.

A program without an auth is a program not worth using.

O.o No it couldn't. They scan them before they get approved. The codexchecks/authorization doesn't scan for viruses

I was told by hydrogen that it isn't necessary, but when I tried to upload one without, it was rejected.

How would a file without an authorization be any different (maliciously speaking) then one with an authorization ? The auth has nothing to do with security, only with authorizing a user to this site.

Maybe the person who reviewed it saw there were no checks on it and forgot to pm you?

    Are there checks on it?

o.o Theres checks on it. Read the first line in my post.

Oh and you make no sense. Why should codexchecks be required anyways?

So people not members of codex and not in the correct ranking can't use it, and so if people get banned they can no longer use the programs.

The software is property of the programmer. He/She (lol) should decide on adding an auth or not.

That is, of course, your prerogative. I like the security that authorizations offer. If I were a programmer and I was releasing high quality programs for use by a select few(i.e. Private, Retired, Advanced even), I would be concerned with leaking or with people using my program without permission. The easiest way to prevent leaking is to require a codex account to use the programs. If you want to distribute programs without authorizations, you're perfectly within your rights to do that. Its just a part of the approval process here.

Nope. Icey Defeat is at college and not really releasing programs right now. I think he is on official leave.

Requiring codexchecks basically says programmers shouldn't have a choice. I released my Account generator source, so its clear the program doesn't mean too much to me, so why would I put an auth on the actual program?

It shouldn't be up to the admins to decide if the program should have an auth, it should be up to the programmer. I release my programs on multiple sites without auth, so theres no point of it being in my program here.

People agree with me, and the only argument is that a programmer wouldn't want it leaked, and in that case they add the authorization. In cases where they don't care, why force it?

Just realised that a program I use that Rockage made doesn't use the Codex checks.....so it obviously isn't forced onto the programmers.

Seems to me that this has just been blown waaay out of proportion.

If you don't agree with the policy, don't upload programs here. It's that simple.

Because the admins decide the rules and this isn't a democracy. Respect their rules or piss off.

Think of a scenario like this...

person a joins codex and downloads program a,b,c
programs b,c are only available on codex
program a is available on many sites
person a then posts some racist crap and gets banned from codex
person a can no longer use a,b,c
person a CAN use program a if he looks for it elsewhere
chances are person a won't look for any of them elsewhere
person b comes along and sees what happened
person b now does not want to get banned as programs wont work
person b does not post racist shit
