What kind of requirements are you given? I never had to write an essay when I applied for my school.

Well I am doing the Common App so here is what is written for the essay:

Please indicate your topic by checking the appropriate button below.

Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you.
Discuss some issue of personal, local, national, or international concern and its importance to you.
Indicate a person who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that influence.
Describe a character in fiction, a historical figure, or a creative work (as in art, music, science, etc.) that has had an influence on you, and explain that influence.
A range of academic interests, personal perspectives, and life experiences adds much to the educational mix. Given your personal background, describe an experience that illustrates what you would bring to the diversity in a college community, or an encounter that demonstrated the importance of diversity to you.
    Topic of your choice.

When I went to visit colleges, most colleges said they want essays that are interesting, show multiple qualites about yourself and basically you have to show yourself off to the college. They also said that the common app just gives some ideas the admission office would also like to see essays that have there own unique topics!

I'm sure you get the point I am making. No need for me to expand any further.

Make your paper off the wall somehow. If you have to just stretch the truth to make it more interesting and different. Also after you have written it take it to your highschool counselor or a writing center at the university or community college. They normally will critique you and give you advice as to what you need to do in order to make it more acceptable.

I wrote about how I got kicked out of my community service place cause I was a lazy shit, woke up, and ended up really working with an autistic kid. His mom loves me now, and I got a presidential award for service. Just like a minor wake up in my life tongue.gif
