So after complaining for a bajillion months about being a fatty-fat, I'm determined to lose weight. Everyone and their mom seems to be saying "eat more meals, but small ones" and yet, no one seems to know wtf a "small" meal is? I've tried googling, and all I can find is "eat 6 small meals" and the only "small" meal they listed was a protein bar. Any suggestions on what would be concidered a "small" meal? Give me your knowledge plz biggrin.gif

Also, any suggested excercise(s)? I particularly want to lose inches on my tummy/legs, but most definitely don't want to lose inches as far as my chest goes (my boyfriend would kill me ohmy.gif). thumbsup.gif

I hear that it really boosts the metabolism but honestly I'm not sure that's always true. I think the real reason behind it is that in general you actually consume LESS calories because you're meant to eat healthy snacks plus you're less likely to becoming starving and binge like most do on normal diets. So in otherwords it's the same old concept of calories in calories out only this is just an easier way to do it for some people. Sadly doesn't work with my lifestyle (my sleep/eating schedule always changes based on work) but it's really great for some women!

While I am not by any means an exercise guru I suggest for your stomach and thighs that you do a routine of squats and sit ups. I'm sure some of the guys can give you better ideas xD Just remember that losing weight can be addictive and most women think they're worse off and need to lose more weight than they actually are/do. Just keep doing it the healthy way and keep the pounds off. Remember a little weight on the body is healthy and a lot of guys actually find that attractive as it means you have curves smile.gif And sadly Kitsune's right. You'll lose some of your chest, but at the same time you'll lose some of your stomach which will help accentuate your chest. That's how it works with me anyways. Lost all my college weight this past summer tongue.gif

Basically eating small meals speed up your metabolism, peoples idea of a small meal vary but you want to be eating instead of until you are full just till you are no longer hungry, maybe even stay slightly hungry for say two of the six meals. This means your body stops storing energy because it gets used to permanently having energy coming in so you no longer have to store the energy as fat, and you will start burning the fat along with the food you eat if you exercise.

Working out is always good. Anything from bench pressing, typical sit-ups/push-ups, jogging, etc. will do. See I have the exact same problem except it's opposite tongue.gif I only weigh like 110 pounds and I'm trying to put on weight. I could eat over 10,000 calories a day and not fill any effects. So working out is the only thing working right now because the muscle mass gives me more weight (and strength).

wow you are really skinny, go drink some creatine tongue.gif

What type of food are you eating though? 10k calories of pizza won't make you gain any muscle tongue.gif But if you are eating carbs/protein you should be gaining muscle, unless you have like an insane Michael Phelps metabolism.

I wish you good luck in your dieting! I try every other day, and usually fail...lol. But Kitsune gave a pefect example of a "small meal" Even if you can't exercise for hours on end, even doing something for 15-20 min is better than nothing!!!

If you just want to lose weight, you dont really need specific exercises, just cardio. If you lose weight, you lose it everywhere (unless you take one of those fat loss pills they show on tv, which highly dont recommend)
You don't even need to jog either, high paced walking on an incline will do.

    Good luck on your diet!

I have a really hard time sticking to a normal eating schedule because of work. I tend to work the close shift, so I don't get dinner.

    I eat at like 11.

Eat something healthy while I'm at work most of the time.

Then I eat again around midnight before sleep because I'm starving.

    :<

It's not healthy, and I should stop it.

Anyway when I was using creatine it didn't make me any bigger, only stronger, so I stopped using it.

Yeah, that's really spot on, you do end up eating less because you're reducing each meal but what you add into your schedule is less than what you took out, so the overall is less cals, but the feeling of being hungry is decreased significantly. And while on the diet you tend to choose healthier options than you might have chosen.

Btw, you should still introduce more exercise into your schedule but apparently it's not actually that great when trying to lose weight. After exercise you will get quite hungry and because of this, it's easy to justify cheating. However, introducing some mild exercise is a must for health reasons and it really helps burn a few more cals a day.

God I feel like a huge hypocrite. I keep starting diets, losing a couple kg, and then all of a sudden I lose nothing for no good reason and it makes me feel like I shouldn't bother since I try and get nowhere.

I have the same problem and we all do. It's called plateauing. I don't know the science behind it but your body tends to stay at a weight that you were at for a long time but eventually you start dropping again. Just may take weeks before you start losing again.

Just divide your reccomended caloric intake by 6 and consume about that much every 2 hours. Set it up so you have a 12 hour set where you eat and one where you dont eat. Be sure to eat proteins and carbohydrates before and after you work out, and to eat a low-GI meal before bed so you can sleep easier. For me, I'm on the opposite end, about 5,300 calories a day at the moment, but I weigh over 210 pounds at the moment and am trying to gain weight.

The great thing about eating six meals a day is you'll never be hungry. You'll enjoy eating but will feel satisfied constantly, and will help you in the long run when you get tempted by junk food and so forth. It'll give you lots of energy too, as your metabolism will be consistently boosted and you'll find more enjoyment in physical exercise. The downside is finding the time to do it. I work at a gym, so I get the excuse to eat at my normal intervals at work, but that's not the case with everyone.

A 2,000 calorie a day diet might be divided up into this:

1 - Egg whites with Lentils
2 - Turkey Wrap with lots of vegetables and turkey on whole wheat, 2 tbsp natural peanut butter
3 - Preworkout Oatmeal and egg protein shake
4 - Postworkout Protein shake with strawberry for flavoring and sugar
5 - Fish with Rice and Black Beans
6 - Small low GI salad before bed

People who work out fixate on eating a shitload of proteins, especially chicken or eggs. In terms of chicken, an amount the size of your palm is usually used as a reference w a few mixed vegetables. In terms of eggs, it's about 3 fried or scrabmled whole eggs or 5 hard boiled whole eggs. etcetccccccc Just try to eat bout 350 calories per meal.

Until you start eating carbs again - then you'll gain all the weight back in half the time you lost it.
If you're serious about losing weight (and it's more than just 10 pounds), I suggest meeting with a nutritionist, or starting a program (ie. Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers - those 2 are the only one's approved with a great success rate).

If you don't want to do any of the above then I'd suggest smaller portions, more vegetables, and exercise (gradually build up your level of exercise - if you do nothing for exercise in a typical day, start by taking a 10-30 minute walk 4 days a week, then move up to 5, etc). Also take vitamins regardless of what you do.
