How did the monkey get the AIDS?

A virus evolved which is very common in hot climates.

So do most monkeys in Africa have AIDS then? Does it effect them the same way it effects us?

I haven't been educated too much on how it has effected monkeys, but I do know that their symptoms are not the same. I remember hearing on the news that several primates do not get full blown AIDS, but still remain in the HIV state. Sometimes certain viruses cross species and it ends up killing more of the species transferred to. Swine flu is a great example for that type of thing.
