LOL wtf! He was nominated for best supporting actor in Tropic Thunder. That's hilarious considering his character in that movie.

I don't mean to sound horribly insensitive, but I honestly think the reason why they gave it to him was because he died. Nicholson was a much better joker at least I thought :\ Not to say that Ledger wouldn't deserve it anyways, but I think if he wasn't dead his chances would be much lower.

I thought Ledger was one of the few actors who I BELIEVED became the character. Regardless of if he is dead or not, it doesn't impact his performance in the movie. I do agree though that his chances would be lower, but I don't think it would of mattered because it was one of the best acting performances I'd seen in a major Hollywood release.

A matter of opinion I guess. I thought he was a very odd choice to begin with. I had to do a double take when I saw his name on the promo poster. If he did really become the character well.. they did say that's what killed him in the end. Shame.

True, it is opinion. I do hate the fact that they bring his social life into play in regards to the movie though. I don't give a fuck how he was off camera, but he did a good job when they were rolling I suppose.
Tabloids do seem to ruin a lot of movies, that's why I try to avoid them.

Exactly. Unfortunately, it was all over the regular news as well so it was unavoidable.
Anyways, I was disappointed that Wall-E only won one Oscar

Regular news is like a tabloid to me. To be honest, I don't even watch the news anymore (CNN, MSNBC, etc) because it's so stupid. I just want news, not stories. I actually find that reading international sections of foreign papers is a better way to get info than reading things like the NY Times or watching the daily news.
I do agree with Wall-E though, seems that the Oscars this year were kind of a joke.

I read BBC but it was still all over my widget
Is Slumdog Millionaire really that good? I haven't seen it. It won like everything.

It's definitely one of the better pictures of the year, but I don't (like most movies) think that all the acclaim it received was completely deserved. Milk in my opinion sucked. There was a documentary in the mid-80's about Harvey Milk that was 10x better. Wall-E was another great Pixar film. Curious Case of Benjamin Button was okay, I suppose. It mainly just drew a big fanbase from all the Tim Burton peoples. In all honesty, I think Coraline was best visuals, but I suppose we'll see next year.
I thought Kung Fu Panda was better than Wall-E though. But I do think that Wall-E appealed to a wider demographic.
Oh well, I rarely agree with popular vote.

Tropic Thunder? only if youre high or have a low tolerance for humour.
Dark Knight, yes.
Also, Heath Ledger was awesome, played the joker amazingly.

I agree, I think Wall-E should have won the sound oscars. It takes a lot to make a movie THAT good with almost no dialogue. I would have preferred that it got the original screenplay oscar as well, but there was no way Milk wasn't going to get it.
I'm happy for Slumdog Millionaire though. Such an incredible movie, I really loved it. Good to see the kids from the movie attended the oscars as well.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. I don't know how the voting system works for the Oscars, I assume it's based on the audiences choice, so I will assume it was either rigged or everyone voted for him for that reason. I haven't watched the movie myself, so I wouldn't know, but everyone obviously voted out of respect for him and for his famly.

I personally feel he was more then deserving of this award. He took a character that already had a strong image of what it should be and transformed it into something completely different and in my opinion a lot better.

Apparently you missed the part where I agreed with Tetiel's post, him being a good actor and all. I was just mentioning that he might not have gotten it if he were still alive, mmkay?
