ANI/MANGA

Seems like there's no discussion on anime/manga around here
bring on the otakus. Weeabos are welcome too.

In my spare time when I'm not out for school/work/socializing
I pretty much just follow up on anime/manga every week as
my form of cheap reading because I need pictures in my books >.>

Currently reading 54 series.
Currently watching 10 series.

Personally, I prefer manga over anime just because I read
at my own pace and don't have to sit down for 30 minutes to
watch an episode. Also I think the stories are better and
longer, so that's my preference.

---

This very moment I am watching Bleach 227, although I've
already dropped the Bleach anime, wanted to watch something
for a break from stuff, so I'm watching this.

Enough about my otaku life, what about you?

I was a massive otaku back in Middle School and my freshman year, but I turned back to gaming like I did originally when I was a youngling.

I really only like the older series like Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Fullmetal Alchemist, if you consider the last one old. (I would, when comparing it to Brotherhood, which would be the new series)

Nowadays, I just watch the above, as well as Lucky Star or Haruhi Suzumiya, as they are coincidentally on my PS3, so I can just boot it up and watch the entire series all at once, but I usually fall asleep half way through on accident. <_<

Lucky Star is so random yet great. Random things in anime makes them great.

Excel Saga, anyone? One of the funniest series I have ever watched. It was well worth the 30-minute sessions as the humor always had me rolling, even if I knew nothing of the genre of that particular episode.

Haven't seen that one, the only parodies I've seen:

    Hyakko
    Gintama
    Hayate no Gotoku
    Seto no Hanayome (dropped after)
    Lucky Star

Going to watch K-ON! too, looks jokes

    Haven't seen that one.

Excel Saga is excellent... they try to maintain a formal plot, but the real point of the show is to lampoon a different genre in EVERY EPISODE. It's excellent at every genre it tries, from romance, to war drama, I can't even remember them all... they even make references to the romance sim games from Japan ><

I'll see if I can get a screencap of the randomness

Heh, haven't watched Excel Saga for a few years now, but it's worth the watch.

Here's a picture, but it may be a little excessive with the blood and all, but it explains the randomness of the show....I think.

All of those characters are still alive later (probably next scene)

And that cat keeps getting called a dog and the main character wants to eat it. I'm loading the episode now to show off similar whacked out humor.

A character in the show wants a girl to like him, but she's not hanging out with him. He has three options.

    Attached File  putitin.jpg   70.45KB   6 downloads

Subtitles didn't show, but the options are

    1. Stalk Her
    2. See Her Off
    3. Put It In

I'm going to have to finish watching Code Geass (R2), then finish the Battle Vixens series, then I'm going to need to go back and watch this bizarre series again. I have a feeling it will lighten things up in my life significantly.

There was a time when watching anime and reading manga felt really
refreshing and clears up my mind completely, now that I've been getting too
much of it, haven't "felt" a series in quite some time.

Good plots really lets me dive right into it, but the more you watch
its the same cliche over and over. They have a good reason to parody since
all battle manga is based off DBZ, all mecha off Gundam, all mystery off Lupin,
all romantic comedy off Love Hina. There's a lot of parody now, mocking the
whole culture because of the cliches and stereotypes that's been established.
And who can forget eroge, a bit part of doujinshi as well as mainstream.

I wish anime/manga would be the same for me as it was when I first got
into it, now its a little repetitive.

    ---

On another note: this is pretty decent in terms of how it really uses stereotypes

*added to download queue... I mean rental queue* :p

Geass is isn't bad... it's mech, but it's not political like Gundam Wing... and I didn't even bother with the other Gundams ><... it's more about the characters than the mechs... I rather like it as original.

Battle Vixens is an action show that doesn't take itself too seriously and has the nice action/comedy/fanervice combo that many men need in their lives... what am I saying? The show is about 60% fanservice, 40% comedy, and 40% action. I know that's more than 100%, but the categories overlap, dammit.

A lot of people love Geass, but yeah, it's still influential due to
Gundam bringing light to the mecha scene, before then it was all about
punks and greaseheads. I've never been a big fan of sci-fi especially
mecha, so I really don't like anything mecha.

Kami-sama is a manga, no anime adaptation yet. It's a decent read
pretty cute art, and it's all about eroge, it's almost funny how sad
    the guy is.

    Spoiler

That makes me wonder, must be only in Japan you can get eroge on PSP.

I would if I had the attention span to, I doubt I would get half way through before I would just give up, I did that with Brotherhood only 10 episodes in.

Hell, the last manga I remember reading in full from start to finish was Chobits a few years ago, I've grown incredibly lazy over the years and just can't read that much unless it's over a long period of time.

I'm reading books also ATM (non-anime related)

But once my reading schedule clears up, I'm going to jump on this series.

Looks pretty good from the wiki

Chobits was alright, I don't really like Clamp, they're women doing shounen,
which sometimes end up a little strange.

Brotherhood is starting to pick up, it was very bad because they redid everything
to catch up to the manga, and the original FMA series was good, but if you read the
manga you may not agree, since it really derailed big time. FMA is another one of
those female mangaka doing shounen, ending up a little different, but its pretty
successful, and I personally enjoy most of it. Except zero progress on Winry.

It's like real life eroge lol, without the ero.

I need picture books, I'm confident my IQ isn't 80 but I still need picture books.
It's a pretty bad habit I developed, can't read real books without getting sleepy.

I don't know who messed up the english translation of the title, but the one they
have on wiki and other manga sites is grammatically incorrect.

It translates into: The World That Only God Knows

    ---

Eden of the East is one of my favorite animes lately, having actual americans voice
English roles is really something that struck me as right. I never watch dubbed stuff
and only believe in original of anything, be it anime, movie, products, so naturally
I want english roles to be played by actual english speakers.

I think anime in any other language other than Japanese is just terrible, american
voice acting is just not the same as a seiyu. Fansub all the way for me, or raw.

I used to watch Anime to learn Japanese. But now I'm slowly working on the written form as opposed to verbal. Never got too into Anime, always been a bigger manga fan (I like going at my own pace, as opposed to watching the dreadfully long shows). Was a huge fan of Yu-Yu Hakusho though.
