I run a Pokemon forum and have used MS Paint to sprite a few fake Pokemon of my design. Here is a gallery of a few of them I will update with more later:

Wow I really love your sprites too! Didn't really like the Sketch Chansey and the Starry Alakazam but the other 4 designs were really good! They were also very well named in my opinion. Thumbs up!

It's very easy to do it if you understand how object/source lighting and shading works. If you get shading right, stuff will look very very awesome

Kuro, last year this kid in my business class showed me Sprites in MS Paint. I thought it would be really hard but it gets easier the more you do it.
I'm sure you could find tons of guides on the internet but I do know that the kid showed me that you zoom in all the way and do the outlining, one pixel at a time. then fill in the base color and go from there.

In other words, it takes a lot of patience and concentration.
