Why do I get the feeling that this thread is about 40-50 years too late?
I don't think I've even met a person who I would class as a hippy.
I've met stoners who don't shower, grow out their hair, attend festivals, and listen to the Grateful Dead and Hendrix.

You should probably do the showering thing more. Then I won't have any problems with you (not that I have problems with online people who don't shower. I can't smell them)

I went to a permaculture / renewable energy conference and there were a lot of white guys with waist-length hair in traditional clothing from India, women with flowing leg and armpit hair wearing hemp dresses, people singing to trees, and a ton of New Age-y stuff for sale (chakra water, crystals, pyramids etc). Feng Shui. Astrology readings. Met some people that lived on a commune. Some weren't wearing shoes and had dirty dirty feet up on the backs of chairs in the auditorium.
New Agers I suppose?
You went to a renewable energy conference, and you didn't expect to see hippies?

LOL no shit. You went to a renewable energy conference, and you didn't expect to see hippies?
I tend to think of 'modern hippies' as flakey dreamers, who want everyone to just 'get along' and tend to favor nature, the color beige, and vegetables. There is nothing wrong with that, except it makes them weirdos. They mean well. They can't help it if their personalities come off as... oatmealy. If it helps, I don't like hippies either. They make me uncomfortable, and I hate pretending like I care about the conversation when they start talking about herbal supplements.
