Well of course I would be wording it a bit differently if it was a family member or spouse... but if it was a family member or spouse, I would be thinking "how could this have been avoided." And using your terminology, if she hadn't been silly, this probably would not have occurred.

She was not forcefully abducted and taken to a secluded place. She voluntarily went there and partook in an activity that would lower her strength and inhibitions.

Sure but girls aswell as guys should be able to partake in drinking etc and shouldnt need to worry about being gang raped, and someone should have stopped it! I mean to be honest if i was with a group of people that seemed nice id feel alot safer than on my own with someone. You dont ever imagine to be gang raped infront of god knows how many people?

Its not like someone made a pass at her...she was gang raped.

I agree that everyone should be able to partake in drinking, but again it comes down to whether or not it's appropriate to do so. I may enjoy a LITTLE to drink and get tipsy with people I don't know... but I've found that getting shit faced with ANY people I don't know tends to be a pretty bad idea.

Yes, someone SHOULD HAVE stopped it, but you can only rely on people to an extent. Beyond that, you need to look out for yourself.

yeh sure, but it wasnt her FAULT she got raped!

    Thats ludicrous!

So any girl/guy in a slightly vunerable situation is slightly to blame if some psychotic perverted man/men decide to rape/stab/commit some sort of crime against them?

    I think not sorry.

I'm not saying anyone in a slightly vulnerable position. I'm saying that someone who chooses to get completely trashed knows that they will not have the same abilities as someone who is completely sober. I'm not saying that she deserves blame for being raped, but at the VERY LEAST she deserves blame for putting herself in a compromising situation. To quote the article:

The girl had consumed a large amount of alcohol by the time the assault began, police said. The girl's father tried to call her cellphone but no one answered.

First, she drank to excess with people she did not know.

Second, she was expected by her father, who was wondering where she was and how she was doing. If she had answered the phone and left, she would have received a scolding, not a raping. And this is assuming that she already made the mistakes of drinking to excess with strangers.

Now if she tried to leave the situation and THEN she was stopped and held against her will, then I'll give her some credit, but I have nothing to suggest that she had any intention of leaving the situation in the article. She was only semiconscious when she was found.

Ok she may have been drunk, but she might not have been able/chose to answer her phone for many reasons?

And even if she was out cold on the floor for hours she still isnt to blame for being the victim of any crime, at all. And its a shame, as I said to start with, that society think that she was asking for something bad to happen to her for being a bit stupid.

What should have happend is that if she was as stupid as we assume, and she was in a completley paralytic drunken state then someone should have either a. answerd her phone and explained to dad/caller that she was in a state and tell them where to come get her or b. get her a taxi to home (if anyone knew it) or hospital.

I realise thats a "ideal" soloution but thats what should happen.

To be honest I can totaly see where your coming from, but not the "blame" part, she was extreamly stupid, yes, but it wasnt her fault in any way. Sorry. Bad luck? maybe. At the end of the day the only blame is with the people who commited it.

If she went there sober and stayed sober, she still would've gotten taken advantage of. You can't do shit against that many people whether sober or not. It was a courtyard at school, she went there with friends. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I really don't understand how you kids think.

If she had been staying sober, she wouldn't have had to go in the first place?

And I think one synapse fire at a time... just like everyone else.

If she said sober or picked better friends when the situation was not ok and left when her dad called then yes, she would have been fine.

'Someone should have stop it.' - This is very true.

It makes me think that this wasn't the real story. I mean so many people watched, none of them stopped her or the guys? It is unbelieveable that all the people there are drunk till the extend where no one knew what was going on.

It is more likely a case where she consented to sex, have sex with whoever she wanted to done it with in the public but the other drunk guys thought it was free sex. And it ended up as rape.

I feel sorry for the girl but seriously there's a lot of things unexplained.

For the part that so many people merely watched on is understandable. It is obvious that they were somehow directly or indirectly connected to the crime such that they did not have had enough of a reason to bring themselves out of inactivity and do something about the situation.

Yea, most people here would but you would have to consider the circumstances involved...like would you do it if it was best friend from childhood or your relative (though I would personally be horrified if its a relative)

It's really hard to say if you would've stopped the situation. I mean, we'd all love to think we would have, but who is really going to stand up to multiple 20+ year olds who are ALREADY raping and beating a woman. What would stop them from you getting raped and beaten as well?

Seriously have to quote the song from sum 41, 'we're all to blame'
    Both parties are at fault...
The girl for her stupidity, I mean come on, wtf is wrong these teenage girls these days?

And those immoral scums too, who deserve to rot for a while in some hole.

Well, from the report there are a lot of passersby so if the girl tried to get help, scream in pain or something, I'm sure someone would at least get some help, called the police.

At the end of the day, it tells a very simple lesson. Don't get drunk. If you get drunk, don't do anything suggestive. If you're doing something suggestive, don't do it in the public.

By suggestive do you mean attempt to go home from a school dance? I get what you mean, but I don't think there are any reports of her doing anything suggestive.
