Although Firefox 3.6 hasn't made it out of beta yet, Mozilla has already made Firefox 3.7 alpha available on its FTP servers. With it comes support for Direct2D rendering, which enables the browser to take advantage of your PC's graphics card to dramatically speed up loading times on complex websites.

Firefox 3.7 alpha is currently codenamed 'Minefield' for obvious reasons (stability, or lack thereof, in particular) and isn't intended for mainstream computer users, but it does give us a glimpse of what the web could look like in the future.

"A while ago I started my investigation into Direct2D usage in Firefox," said Firefox developer Bas Schouten in a post on his blog. "Since then we've made significant progress and are now able to present a Firefox browser completely rendered using Direct2D, making intensive usage of the GPU."

I'm using it right now and it's awesome! Everything loads so much faster, and it's really stable too. I'm going to ditch chromium and finally come back to firefox.

You can download it here. http://ftp.mozilla.o...y/latest-trunk/

Which will load the page faster. 8 cores, or a GTX 285?

I think they should focus on making it less bulky. There is no damn reason ever it should freeze on my computer.

Flash has nothing to do with Mozzila. Instead its going to load graphic intensive web pages faster.

Does this help for Neopets considering most of the important content are in flash. It might help for RS'ing but this doesn't speed up Aborsia :p

Depends how its implemented. I think either one could possibly be faster.

Yeah flash player is an external plugin by Adobe, Firefox just embeds it while it runs. Adobe Flash Player doesn't use GPU acceleration yet but it is working on it.

Only way it could be different would be if Firefox opens the .swf file by itself, reads the code and renders it itself, sorta like what Linux does by default, hence extremely slow and crappy flash playback.

What GPU acceleration will do however will be to make alot of the trippy effects in CSS3 work better... Unfortunately due to the massive bloat which Firefox has succumbed to, it still won't be able to run this page with all of the trippy snow without crashing ShadowLink's browser :p.

I already said this before in this topic!!! Dont get mad at me :(.

And firefox is bloated because they became lazy programmers I guess. Too many features, implemented poorly.

I havent seen any improvements in FF 3.7 (Dont load fancy enough pages I guess). But for Flash, the H.264 rendering is much sexier. :)

FF3.7 definitely loads pages a lot faster, but most of the addons i usually use don't support it yet :( so I'm gonna stick with the old FF.... (although I'm really starting to love chrome a lot more because it starts up soo much faster :x3: )

I would love chrome. But I get so many damn issues with it :(.

I have to use the beta because I'm not using a browser without Adblock...So, I cant click compose mail in gmail, playlists wont play in youtube. I cant stream videos from my favorite site because its in iframe.
