Its not great but if you have a good enough computer you can deal with it. Restarting your computer, and reinstalling your OS are two things I highly recommend on a regular basis. I restart every other day and reinstall every few months. I never have any computer problems except those I bring upon myself.

isn't reinstalling your OS really tedious and time consuming?
i think i should, but you have to backup all your data first yeah?

I usually put it in sleep mode when I'm not using it... but it still runs pretty well. I think the longest I've gone without restarting it is probably a month.

A few months. I usually restart it only when my computer becomes too sluggish or I need to do software update.

Woah! Do you guys really mean you keep your comps on for weeks or months straight??? I thought the comp would over heat or something after a while, also, isn't it a waste of power? Maybe i'm just misunderstanding you, cos i went to bed at 6:30 this morning and i'm paying for it with a massive headache. Still, I thought leaving my laptop on for 12 or so hours was wearing it down *shakes head at you guys*

Yea, i go for weeks at a time. A quick restart seems to always help it out.

i believe it has to do with HD spins. The more your HD spins the more likely it is to screw up. that's why its better to leave it on i beleive or asleep im not too sure. turning it on and off will greatly increase your chances of your computer crashing.

Yeah, the longer the hard drive is left powered, the higher the probability that a disk surface defect is going to happen.

I don't like keeping the computer powered for longer than a day or two, haha. Putting it to sleep is usually the thing I do at the end of the day instead of shutdown. :p

As for a restart, I'd probably go for a week until I would do a full restart, either because I installed something or I just felt like doing it, lol.

Usually as long as possible until it turns off by itself for an upgrade or something. When I first got my computer it probably stayed on for a year, since then it goes down about every couple months. Probably not the best plan but whatever.

I think there was a time in the summer where I didn't shut my laptop down for... maybe 8 days or so? I haven't done that in a while though. Nowadays the longest I would leave it on is 2-3 days really.

I never power down my laptop. The closest thing I do is restarting no more than once a month for updates, programs, or I want to clear the memory and background programs.

I prefer Hibernate over Standby or Restart (even if you have 4GB of ram) because I can still safely change most (not all) hardware on my laptop and computer.

My main pc is a laptop that I usually take to class with me. I honestly cant think of a time that I have restarted it since winter break came. I've been on break since Nov. 23rd. I think I'm going to turn it off while I go to work today. haha

I really never go to a full shutdown unless im away from my computer for at least a week. Otherwise I sleep it every time I leave and only restart after microsoft updates.
