tbh, in terms of video game sales, which is the only thing that really matters, girls are the fastest growing demographic, they mainly play casual games, but that's their perogative, game publishers look in $$$, not genre... All the guys here should too, Some of these comments are upsetting the ladies :p And the more girls on codex the better. Also they are alot less likely to pirate, which makes them a favorable target audience.

Man, I pirate religiously. Any game that has invasive DRM (aka 99% of them) I refuse to pay for. I know all the arguments for and against pirating, and I stopped caring about the lot when SuckyRom fucked up my computer to the nth degree. I'll only buy DRM free games, period.

That being said, the insanely stupid EA practices concerning SecuROM on The Sims 2 taught many, many girls how to pirate. I should know, I taught them myself :pirate:

even a girl that pirates is impressive by my standards...most of my friend girls don't even know how to use torrents, so i end up having to download everything for them.

In my circle of friends, nobody knows how to pirate or understands what torrents are, males and females alike, no matter how many times I try to explain. They're all 20-something and in college--prime pirating demographic! But if I can make a generality here, females tend to be less comfortable/knowledgeable about technology and therefore somewhat less willing to learn. But whatever, I get to be the cool one cuz I gots da goods :pirate1:

Ugh and I hate how electronic store employees will talk to my husband about tech even though its for me and I am the one buying.

I bought a laptop last year from Bestbuy and even though it was MY money they kept asking my husband what I wanted it for? When I asked for specific specs one salesperson asked from what website did I get my info from...excuse me! I actually know a bit about computers jackass. And yes I know its really powerful and no I just don't play casual games jackass.

I hate how sales people assume all I do is play match 3 games, go on facebook and twitter. I don't even have a facebook or twitter account thank you very much. AND I am looking forward to Diablo 3.

I love how these boy vs girl posts end up with boys sounding like total jackasses who will never EVER get laid, and the girls bitching about how everything is SO UNFAIR WAH. Hold me!

Women are not inferior, I just don't think the majority of girls give a rats ass about winning a level in a fucking game on their playstation. Yeah yeah, there are girls who are awesome at games blah blah blah. But the fact is gaming is like reading comic books or going to strip joints. There are certainly women who are comic nerds and women who frequent strip clubs, but the proportion of male to female is much greater on the male side. *Kanye shrug*

p.s. The Best Buy guy meant no offense, he probably just didn't think you had your hearing aid on, Chobitz.

That salesman is an idiot. The first rule I learned when I walked in the door at futureshop(canadian commission bestbuy, since they are owned by bestbuy), was to sell to the woman not so much the man. If a guy comes in to buy a tv, ask him if he has a wife. If he does get him to bring her with him before you sell him a tv. So many times the guy goes in and blows thousands on a tv set and then within the week his wife makes him return it.

Me too, at first back when it was still just MTS. Then the whole paysite war started and I helped found the FFFSS. That didn't work out (because Inge Jones is weird) and I moved over to the PMBD side of things. That's all I'm allowed to say, otherwise Pescado will come to my house and murder my doggy :ninja:

Doesn't bother me at all, actually. There will always be things that are more attractive to guys than girls. What does bother me is that people make wild assumptions about me and other women based on our sex. When it comes to gaming, these stereotypes are often very extreme an extra-strength stupid. There's this guy I've been gaming with for about three years now (roleplay, video games, the works) and he still thinks I spend all my free time shopping, gossiping and crying about my weight. It's insane.

I had similar experiences with a hardware store here. I came in to buy some RAM (this is the type of store where the salesperson needs to do everything for you, including getting what you want from the shelf) and he immediatly matter-of-factly asked me what type of RAM my boyfriend wanted.

I don't see any guys here proving anything either. Just making huge boasts about how l33t they are. So should we all just assume that guys needn't prove anything, because it is fact that they are naturally awesome? If you make claims about people, the burden of proof is on you. Right now, when you say how awesome you are, I have to take your word for it and I'm quite content to do that. Why in the world would I want to prove myself to someone I barely know and doesn't think very highly of me anyway? It's not like anything is ever going to change your mind and I've got better things to do than try and change your mind in an online pissing contest.

And anyway, I'd probably lose. Not because my boobs are in the way and my uterus is making me insane and I'm in the throes of hysterical paroxysm, or whatever it is that makes you think girls can't be gamers, but because I'm not into gaming the same way you are into gaming.

    Hm...

I think it has to do with the gamer mentality. Guys are much more competitive then girls, and they learn how to do things faster then girls, while on the other hand, girls like shiny, pretty, cute things, and not doing much work.

I have nothing against girls, but I have never ever ever seen a girl who was good at games.

I've played well over a million matches online, and have never ever once lost to a girl. They simply are not as good at gaming as guys.

Maybe you haven't outright said it, but you you have to admit you're making some awefully broad statements about female gamers and (and females an sich). I really think the above statements say something about the way you feel about girls who play games. Not people who play games. Girls. I really don't see how you can say all these things and then claim that in your opinion, it's got nothing at all to do with gender. Sorry, but I'm calling bullshit.
If that's not what you're saying, that girls are bad at gaming because they're girls, then what?

And if you ever spent any time in our irc/chat, then you would know that I am more then willing to take on anyone in games....

I'm sure you are and I'm sure you're very good at what you do, game-wise. I have no reason to believe otherwise.

I have no ideal what causes them to be bad a video games, and I dont immediately think they are bad, but I have over a million matches worth of data, all that points to the only statement possible. Girls are not as good as guys at gaming. I have no issues at all about girls playing video games, but I do know something quite well. I have a very very deep knowledge of both games and girls, and I do know very well that the majority of girls do not like video games unless it is cute/cuddly/shinny. There are always an exception to the rules, and of course we would find them on every forum (Because gamer chicks go there) but that excludes the majority of girls, which spend their time on twitter.

I do honestly hope that your not trying to argue to even half of the girls in the world play games....

Okay, let's turn it around for a minute.

I'm 90% sure that all guys in the world are good gamers. I know this because I've played against millions of guys and they always won. I've never met a guy that hasn't won a game. There's probably not a single guy in the world that couldn't win a tournament if he put his mind to it. If you hand any guy in the world a controller or keyboard, he'd probably be naturally good at whatever game he pops in. Because all guys have a natural drive, or genes, or wires in the brain that make them good at games. Sure, there's some exceptions, like one or two guys who're not very good, but those really are exceptions and don't really count.

See how it doesn't work? Allt hat stuff I just wrote is total and complete bull, because in the real world, there aren't any universal truths about such insanely large groups of people. There's billions of men in the world and a great, great many of them have nothing to do with gaming at all. That's because most people in the world have nothing to do with gaming culture. The exact same logic doesn't work in reverse because it's easier to see men as a very diverse group of people, while women are stereotyped and pretty much all the same (they all like shiny frilly things, they're all lazy, etc...)

Women as a popultion group as just as diverse and individual as men are. It's your sweeping generalisations about my sex that don't make a lick of sense that I object to, nothing more.

So if I brag about my 3 terabytes of storage, 6 gigs of ram, my quad core and my SLI video cards Oooh I am a real gamer and you will respect me as a gamer?

    Pass..

See I don't have to prove my skills and IMO thats one thing that separates women gamers from male gamers. A lot of women gamers treat it as a past time, a hobby while a lot of men play games as a competition on whose epeen is bigger or to get their ego stroked.

Has gaming now turned into middle aged men buy expensive sports cars to prove how great they are??

You know whats funny Iargue? You probably think The Sims is just a girly game and not 1337 enough for you. But do you know some of the best hackers and modders play/mod The Sims series of games? Hackers who would eat you for dinner and still be hungry. Don't dismiss 'casual' games or people who play them.

Man, if that doesn't explain it all.

Is that a general question? It'd be nice if we could talk about gaming again. (What happened to the gaming board on this forum anyway? Was it underused?)

I haven't got an XboX 360 (I have a regular one though) because when it came time to chose a next-gen console me and boyfriend figured all the good RPGs would be on the Playstation 3 anyway. Microsoft screwed me over on that one big time. I like to stick to my PC because most games I like are highly modable (The Elder Scrolls Series, Fallout 3, Dragon Age, that kind of thing) and I love customizing my game. Consoles make me feel like I'm at the mercy of the big game developers and I don't trust them as far as I can throw them. I likes mah torrents 'n mods 'n usermade programs ahoy. :pirate1:

What Dragon Age mods are you using? I've gone through them all at dragon age nexus (or whatever it's called) and none seem thatappealing
