yeah, I've read articles that say that humans shouldn't drink cow's milk at all. It's for baby COWS, not humans. If we want milk that's good for us, we should drink human breast milk.

haha this makes me think that we're going to start milking humans for milk :o Which sounds extremely inhumane

But we do that to cows :o

Although cows aren't the same as humans... heh

It's true. That's why all mother's should breast feed their children! But that's getting a little off topic :o

"Hillary Swank, get your milk from her!"

prolonged drinking of breast milk leads to higher IQ

    Statistics fail
There has never been, and likely will never be, a well designed experiment on the subject. You can stage an observational study, and that can lead to the conclusion that drinking breast milk and high IQ's are correlated. However, correlation does not imply causation, causation can only be determined by a well designed controlled experiment.

Saying that drinking breast milk leads to higher IQ is completely ignoring the very real possibility of confounding factors.

you're right it's still not 100% linked but in context milk has everything you need to improve your cognitive ability. the study was a pretty large one too. although the results on average wasn't that significant (only 3-4 points on average) it's still a difference.

3 - 4 points on a test with a standard deviation of 15 is statistically insignificant.

That looks like statistically significant data right there. I want to give a grant to the researcher who is working on this topic.

3-4 points of IQ is not the same as 3-4 points on a test I'm not completely sure but I'm guessing the average IQ is around 100 then the highest amount is typically 140 so the difference between 100 and 104 is a 3% change. I don't know how significant this is in IQ. The IQ of a dog compared to humans is that of around a 2 year old child or 30 which leads me to believe that a 3% IQ change is fairly significant. But then again, I don't know how great the difference between 1 IQ is to another. Like pH scale, 3 points in difference is extremely significant. The study also hypothesized that there would be continual growth in the children's intelligence throughout the years. Though, that test hasn't been don yet :)...

regardless of whether it's that big of a difference or not, just by simply adding breastmilk has long term effects for IQ, why the heck not just drink it? Better than nothing.

Ugh, stop reading into my posts too much. Posted Image IQ is normally distributed (i.e. Bell Curve) across a population, and has a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. Ergo, the change is much too small (very very large overlap) to be considered statistically significant enough for psychologists to say there is any evidence supporting the breast milk theory. And citation needed for the dog thing, as the IQ for an average 2 year old is 100... IQ is always relative to age. And it is probably referring to the intelligence of a dog. IQ != Intelligence.

regardless of whether it's that big of a difference or not, just by simply adding breastmilk has long term effects for IQ, why the heck not just drink it? Better than nothing.

I dunno, maybe because some women won't exactly warm to the idea of either breastfeeding a 3 year old, or getting milked...
