Dont drink and Drive.
QFT
No offense but he shouldn't try to "get out of it". He did wrong so he should pay fine or do jail time.
There has been studies that say those who got away with a DUI will most likely do it again.
Sorry but no sympathy here.

Didn't need a lawyer.
Didn't even need a public defender.
I got the same end result as a guy who actually paid for a lawyer that day.
First offense (at least in Maryland) usually isn't too bad.
@Chobitz: Guess I'm the exception to the statistics? I'm so mortified by having to deal with this shit in the first place that I'm going back to my old fallback of either drinking at home or staying where I'm drinking. It's cheaper this way anyway.

I got a PBJ with two years of probation.

No you didn't try to get out of it did you? Plead innocent? The studies I saw were those who said "wasn't me, the test was wrong, the cops are crooked" etc. Those who were either in denial or acting like they were in denial.
YOU knew you were in the wrong right? your actions later by not driving proves that.
Plus there are exceptions to every rule

I think my exact approach to the judge was
"I was wrong. There are reasons for what I did, but none of them are acceptable. I'm trying my best here and I ask for as much leniency on a first offense as you can provide."
I'll take two years of probation if it will keep this off my record.

See thats the difference. People who fight it don't learn their lesson and do it again. There was a guy in my city who had 40 DUIs. Not sure how he kept getting a slap in the wrist but when they caught him again he got life.

Maybe it's different here in Australia but a few of my mates have lost their license for drink driving [at 17 when the legal drinking age is 18] and that's it. Just a loss of license.
