I used to be able to control these. 90% of the time if I tried I could put myself in that state. And it's really cool too; it's sorta like being able to control your dream. In some cases you almost feel like your flying.

Zulfi and I used to talk about this and he got pretty good at controlling it too, from what I recall. But I've lost touch with him. On that note, does anyone still talk with him?

But that was last year. In the past 4 weeks that I've tried it, I was only successful once for about 1 minute. The worst part is if you fail you basically have to wait until the next night.

Does anyone else like to this or am I the only one?

The closest thing I have is 6 hours of deep sleep instead of a cycle. That's my sleep "paralysis." How do you go about controlling your dream? It's an interesting phenomena imo.

All I do is try my best not to fall asleep. At some point if your concentration is good you'll be able to catch yourself drifting into a sleep and that's when it happens.

Sorta. I don't think lucid dreams are voluntary. At least not from my experience. But it's similar with the paralysis part. Other than that the lucid dreams I've had were really frightening.

I used to get sleep paralysis multiple times a month when I was young.
I haven't had it happen to me in a long time. I'm talking about waking up and not being able to move. It didn't have anything to do with dreaming.

I've actually gotten pretty good at lucid dreaming - on occasions. Overall now I know when I'm dreaming. Also, almost all of my dreams are now about things I'm actually thinking about during the day Posted Image.

For those who want to start controlling your dreams, start keeping a note of what you dream. This will help you remember them but also help u realize you are dreaming while you are dreaming.

Wish I had something like this more often, when I get it, I feel like I'm falling through my bed, but if I move even the slightest I gain full consciousness and everything returns to normal. Quite the rush every time I get it, but I usually freak out afterwards, because it feels so real.

To my knowledge, sleep paralysis is when you wake up and though fully aware, you have no control over your body. Lucid dreaming is more along the lines of what you are referring to. Neither have ever occurred for me, though when I was young I had very vividly detailed nightmares nearly every night.

Wow. Coincidence. I just posted a question on Yahoo answers. I'll repost it here.

All of my life I have suffered from what most would classify as sleep paralysis; however, my episodes are different. I have done a bit of reading on it, and nowhere does it mention my exact symptoms. When these episodes occur, I 'wake up' in a highly delirious state (paralyzed), however my breathing declines until, as hard as I try, I can't breathe. You know how you can't suffocate yourself, because it is a natural mechanism of your body to force you to take a breath when deprived of oxygen? That's what happens. Just when it feels like I'm about to die, I 'completely' wake up gasping for air. Some nights I can go without an episode, other times I can have 2-3. I'm sure drowning 2-3 times a night doesn't appeal to anyone, so I was wondering what I should do?

I hate it. Atleast the onces that occur really deep in my REM cycle (middle of the night) aren't bad, as I can't open my eyes, and I can only remember it vaguely in the morning. However, the ones that occur in the morning/during the day are freightening. When it happens to me during the day, I can open my eyes, but can't move or breath (actually, I can slightly move - I try to move my arms/call for help but the effects are minimal). That, and I often hallucinate. This morning was the worst I've had. I was actually having a really hallucogenic dream prior to the episode, so I was already paranoid. Then I woke up, couldn't move, and again couldn't breath. On top of that, I was hallucinating and was 100% sure there was someone climbing through my window in to the room.

Wow, I've only had one episode similar to that. In the dream I somehow possessed the body of the devil O_o who happened to be a goat about to be sacrificed. So from my point of view I was on a slab of stone about to be killed. As soon as I "possessed" his body I started breathing rapidly and I was completely overcome with fear. I woke up a few seconds later like in the movies, breathing hard :p

I used to sometimes wake up in odd positions on my bed after nightmares.

My favorite "Nightmare" was when you fall off something and right before you hit the ground you wake up with the butterflies in your stomach.

When I sleep really early, or am on a weird sleeping schedule, I tend to get sleep paralysis.

Once, I woke up, but I found myself in a different room. I tried to turn on the lights with my hand, but they wouldn't turn on. My body wouldn't move, and I realized that I was paralyzed. I looked forward and saw a black haze/figure on top of my body. Instead of closing my eyes and trying to sleep, I fought against it by swearing at it, calling it a demon etc. I struggled really hard to get up, and push through it, and I actually did. I punched at it and forced my body at it. Then I woke up. It was scary at first, but cool to know I got through it.

Anyone ever have a night terror? Thats where your dreaming world and waking world overlap while having a nightmare.

I only had one and it was scary! My husband was on the computer in our bedroom when I fell asleep. I "woke up" to see him still on it (thats true) but when he turned around he hate a rotten zombie like face(obviously not true). It looked VERY real and I started screaming.

My husband said what happened was I fell asleep, then it looked like I sat up wide awake (my eyes were wide open) and started screaming but when he went to touch me I laid back down and closed my eyes. I remember the night terror though and it did feel like I was awake!

    Something very similar happened to my friend one night. We were all asleep in my back room most of us were asleep me and another one of my friends were still awake as we both have trouble sleeping. All of a sudden we start to hear my friend sleep talk. It was a mumble at first it progressively got louder and louder and his voice more distorted. He sounded really croaky and started talking about the devil. I can still remember quite distinctly most of the shit he said. It went something like this;
"666 the devils number, a mark of the beast. 666 the devils number, a mark of the beast. 666 the devils number, a mark of the beast. 666 the devils number, a mark of the beast. 666 the devils number, a mark of the beast. 666 the devils number, a mark of the beast. (Yes he repeated 6 times) This is the mark of me for I am the beast. Jesus died in vain for here I am and you are all going to die. Crucified all will be. Curcified on the 9th day - the day of judgement you will. Prepare for Armageddon. You, your family, your home, everything you know will perish in one foul swipe. The beast has spoken.."

Then he woke up and said what the fuck..

This same thing happened to me although I didn't break free I saw 3 fingers cover my eyes and I lost all aggression, I was extremely aggressive, mum and dad burst into my room at which time I stopped and fell dead asleep. I was yelling out stop it or I will fucking kill you and all this shit. I was banging loudly on the wall. Mind you I had 2 hours sleep that night so I don't think it was anything unusual just sleep paralysis. My pop gets into deep conversations in his sleep. Some calm, some aggressive. Maybe it's something genetic?

I have no idea what sleep paralysis is.

But, I will talk about something sleep-related.

Once I had a dream about going to the bathroom and peeing in the bathtub.

I woke up and realized I actually peed. xD

Anyways, guess I could say that I woke up with not just one, but with both legs being numb, and it was a grand adventure trying to make it up the stairs.
