Hurp durp maybe because he wants to play an MMORPG and not some shitty FPS.hahahaha..why WOW..play some CS or Left 4 Dead..or Frozen throne at least...
Anyways, it's futile to start until Cataclysm launches, unless you want to be stuck doing nothing but random dungeons because the shitty community wouldn't take you to any raids.

This is so not true. That game is so incredibly kind towards new players.kinda late to start WoW now
you'd be wayyyy too far behind just for it to start being fun again
Anyway, TC, rogue is pretty fun / easy / forgiving for PvE. I liked leveling my shaman a lot and they're really good now too. If you don't like hunter, I'd shy away from warlock because they're pretty similar leveling wise. Maybe mage? Guess it depends what you want to do.

Those MMORPG terms confuse me..

The game might be catered to casuals and is easy to play, but without a group willing to take him to any raid content, there is very little reason to even play once he hits 80, a small percentage of people do anything before ToC religiously, and he would be stuck gearing up via random dungeons to even have a chance of getting into a raid group, that is, if he hits 80 before Cataclysm hits. This is so not true. Except for the part where he would have to level to 55 first before he can make one.Death Knight. Leveling is cake and they are so overpowered in the early levels.

This is coming from someone who has over a year /played across his characters. A two season gladiator who was part of several server first boss kills in vanilla.
TAKING THE GAME TOO SERIOUSLY.
It's fun! Leveling is fun when you haven't done it before. Shitloads of fun, in fact.

I'm still puzzled as to the mass appeal of WoW. It plays like any other MMORPG.

allright, i wonder which race / class i should make
i'm currently playing a tauren hunter in the 10 days beta, but not really liking it
Every class has its up and downs. Race matters only a little, its more for how you want to look.
For an overview and not indepth look at every class.
Priest - Only two things you can do with this race. DPS, and Heal. 90% of the time, when you do instances, people will want you to heal. When in PVP you will play both healer and dps, because your class is very good at being a hybrid. You have Fear. which is both a cc and a stun in one.
Druid - You can be three things. The true Hybrid Class. You have Tank. Dps. And Healing. Your dps is in two forms, physical or spell. Your tanking is physical, and your healing is based up on HOTS or Heal of Times. This generally means that in most encounters you dont have to do much but keep your hots up and let off quick heals on some people. You have 2 stuns, and 1 cc.
Rogue - Your class breathes DPS. This is what its all about. Your epic on 1 on 1 fights. With several different times of stuns and slows, as well as stealth, this character was built around PVP. Your usage in RAIDS is generally limited as people enjoy AOE over your epic DPS, but you can still get groups just to kick spells.
Warrior - You have two choices. DPS and TANK. Tank is what you will be doing. Fury (Or dps) warriors are okay, but Tank warriors are beasts.
Warlock - Welcome to a new word. DOT (Damage over time). This class is the master of this. Your DOT spells are cast on an opponent and keep hurting him as long as the spell lasts. You have plenty in class, so you just dot him up, watch his health bleed away while casting FEAR on his silly head.
Mage - This class is about the DPS, but has different types. Arcane is all about the Burst Damage. It rapes hardcore in the damage dealing department, but isnt sustanable for long periods of time. Fire is all about DPS for long periods of time. And Frost is all about the Survivabily. A frost mage is probably harder to kill then a rogue.
Paladin - Another Hybrid Class. Your Ret Paladin deals wicked burst damage. Your Holy Paladin heals for insane amounts of health. Your tank paladin just shrugs off damage and keeps laughing.
Honestly. Play every class till 20. See if you like them. 20 gives you only a tiny insight as you dont get all of your spells or talents till later in the game. But atleast this way you can find a class you like how it fights.
No. Its much smoother and much better balanced then other MMORPGS. Its PVP system is most of the time near perfect. Its UI is smooth, and customizable. The Lore is solid.I tried playing a hunter on a private server awhile back, but I just couldn't get into it.
I'm still puzzled as to the mass appeal of WoW. It plays like any other MMORPG.
Everything about it works out perfectly. People love it because when you play it, you dont wait, it all happens, fast and smooth.

GET OUT NOW BEFORE IT EATS YOUR LIFE
I was going to suggest this, but I'd rather wait to see who the mindless zombies are before I defame their lifeblood.

The game is been dumbed down and casualized that the only people who spend all day on it are elitist raiders and arena teams.GET OUT NOW BEFORE IT EATS YOUR LIFE
You can invest a couple hours a day and get all you need done, on an off day, you'll spend more time in the washroom sitting on the toilet then you need to be in game.

Just know that they're coming out with an expansion soon that's going to essentially change every aspect of the game. The best you can do is have fun until then and start researching when the Cata patch comes out.
