Can I ask as to why you are looking to learn Visual Basic - is it to make programs for Neopets?

The best language to choose depends on your reasons for learning programming.

hmmm my plan's to just pick up simple neopets programming, progressing on to the more advanced ones later. i'd wanna see how proficient/inclined i am towards programming, to see whether i'd want to advance from there on.

any suggestions?

I still wouldn't suggest Visual Basic - that shit is redundant now.

Suggestions: Java, Python or C#

If you only want to learn to make Neopets programs then you may as well just go with VB.NET or C#.NET since they're both RAD languages and there should be plenty of tutorials which can be converted to suit.

You might as well go C#.NET, it's much easier than C++ but not much harder than VB.NET.

Sidenote: that badger really reminds me of someone from somewhere wayyyy back.

refuse to give up my precious c++... as for VB 6 for all I care I could forget my knowledge on that... Java is kind annoying but not to bad... I just hate the thought of a VM... C# and VB.NET are decent enough for what you want to do though

actually vb6 is a lot easier than java. c++ is more useful though. Since it has better resources and capabilities than vb6
