I've never had a child, but here in my opinion on babysitters; They're shit. Why for fuck's sake would you think it's safe to leave your children with a stranger? You teach your kids not to talk to stranger and then hire one to watch over the safety of your children. No one besides my father will ever watch over my baby besides myself, and here is exactly why:

The babysitter/nanny shouldn't be prosecuted for child battery. They should just beat them to death. Females like that don''t deserve to live and why should the tax payers pay to feed their fat asses in jail.
Those videos are extremely upsetting to watch. Forgive me if my opinion on their punishment seems harsh.

Yes, like the parents are any better for not doing some sort of screening process to make sure they hired a respectable nanny.

in the first video at the end it says that she was referred by close friends. She also works at a church and had never been convicted of a crime before O_o

Didn't bother, I've seen enough of that shit on Maury.

Everyone has a limit, and when it's reached, even the most tame creature will rampage.

"... used a knife and two swords..."

Who just has two swords laying around? And this baby was obviously a superman baby. It took a knife and TWO swords to take him out.

This is horrible and everything, but...

You guys are just going to give up your social life completely once/if you have children, because you don't trust anyone else to look after your kids?

You always have family like your mom and your dad. Wait until they're free and then go out. Realistically, any mother should be prepared to have 0% social life once having a child. I'm old-fashion like that. Kids should come before yourself imo. You can do loads of shit once your retired and they're in college.

Okay, but what if it's not a social obligation? What if something comes up at work, or someone you know dies and you need to attend the funeral? What if your parents pass away, and you don't have any other relatives to watch your kids? What if you're a single parent and you have an emergency, but you don't want to leave the kids at home by themselves?

I had tons of babysitters growing up, and not a single one of them ever laid a hand on me.

I also think it's completely unfair that a parent should have to give up his or her social life 100%. Of course your kids are your #1 priority, and their needs come first, but just because you're a parent doesn't me you can't have a night out with your spouse every once in a while, or go to an adult holiday party or something. I'm not going to wait 18 years to get a break from my responsibilities as a mother a few times a year.

If it's a funeral, you can bring your child with you. If someone asks you to stay late at work explain you have a new born baby at home.

I'm not saying it's for everyone. I'm just saying that's the way I would do it. I just don't trust strangers to take care of my newborn baby. There are a lot of insane people out there, kay?
I honestly would feel more safe leaving a 10 year old home by themselves than leaving them with a stranger.

Well that's different then. I'm saying I wouldn't just pick a babysitter and leave them with my children. Even if I did a background search/whatever on them. Because bad people don't necessarily always get caught. If it was like a family member, then I would be like 90% more comfortable with it.

I guess sending your kid to school isn't safe.

ahem, let me edit that for you:

Why for fuck's sake would you leave your kids alone with a stranger in an isolated house where no other people around to watch what was happening.

better or should I add more yet?

I was thinking more along the lines of a close friend, or maybe even a trustworthy neighbor. I was also thinking infants or younger children, not a 10 year old. In most cases, if you're not going to be gone for long, leaving your 10 year old home alone is probably not that big of a deal.
