So I'm all excited about IE9 I go to their site:
http://www.beautyoftheweb.com/

Checking out their features so stoked to download. I heard no hardware accel on xp but no big. So then I go to download and it says:

Since you're running Windows XP, you won't be able to install Internet Explorer 9 unless you upgrade to a more recent version of Windows.

<_< <_< <_< <_< <_< <_< <_<

So now its for certain. Im going with FF4. They even do partial hardware acceleration on XP.

IE9 is still significantly worse than the rest of the market. They rushed it out too quickly in attempt to halt their falling market share. Should have spent more time developing it.

They're trying to get people to move onto windows 7 but seriously what makes them think people would move to windows 7 just for IE9 when some people are still using IE 6.

The majority of windows users are still XP. Vista was a bust and 7 is only taking over now.

I was using XP up until a few days ago and I had to reformat with w7. It runs a whole lot smoother on 7 Noit, let me tell you that much ;)

Fine noit. You can only make one product for money, and everyone in the world will buy it just once. Oh yeah, and your a corporation, so you never die. How are you supposed to die?

XP has lived for long enough. Let it die. :(

IE9 will fully support HTML 5. It will also be the first browser to be fully hardware accelerated. This means the better your computer, the faster the pages will load.

That's interesting. I may just try it out to see what it's like then.

http://www.microsoft.com/student/en/us/windows/buynow/default.aspx if you have an .edu email. Not sure where you live, but certain colleges can give you an msdn account and you can get it for free. That's how I got mine. If you're still in school (again I have no idea) it's worth asking your teacher/professor (they have to be doing something tech related though) if they can make you an msdn account.

You can download a disc image from any torrent site legally as long as it's not cracked. The key you can get from any university with a MSDN-AA program which gives free M$ products for all Enginerring/CS majors. Ask your university's IT director about Academic Alliance. I acquired my key from such a program.

Of course there is always a cheaper, faster solution.

They send you an email confirming that it's your email. So as long as you still have access to it, you can do it.

Nah. It's not free unless you have an msdn account. Like someone said earlier, I would email one of your old teachers and see if they'll hook you up.

Also posting from IE9 now and as a hater of IE I'm actually impressed and liking it.

My or browser loads faster than firefox... Both on initial launch and per page change.

I think the hardware acceleration is party of the reason why it isn't available on XP. If they were to release it for XP, you would lose a lot of the new functionality. May as well continue running IE8.

IE9 also fails at the Acid3 test, surprise surprise.

Why would anybody want IE9 (for more than trying it out) anyways?

Unless it is better than Chrome (or Firefox because I can't tolerate the bloat), IE remains disabled on my system.

IE9 is designed to have optimal performance, rather than being so bulky, along with "new" security features.   I can see it being useful in a business environment (which is what I suppose they would be aiming for, along with general home usage)  but other browsers will still appeal to the majority of users out there.

All the CSS rendering in IE9 should be up to standards. The good thing about IE9 is that it standards compliant. Supposedly.
    And the hardware acceleration.
