Possibly time to change to a better server with all the subscription you are getting? :p

(It's a suggestion to the forum)

Can't do that, we're hoping to compete in next year's America's Cup and possibly a round-the-world yacht race if Noitidart manages to get his 20 metre swimming certificate by then.

i just claimed my 2 days extension to my dreamhost account :)

you should do the same too, since it was down for 1+ to 2 hours. 1hour down=1day given back extra

they will give it to you if you submit a ticket pointing to the url above and their 100% uptime guarantee to unscheduled downtime.

    cheers :)

We're looking into possibly getting a virtual private server. We're on shared hosting right now and that comes with certain limitations. For example, we can't run daemonized processes because they run indefinitely long. In order to mitigate that, we have a php script that accepts the item db information and submits it to the database. The amount of data coming in has gotten so high that we can't even send it right away or our server becomes slow. We send it in a batch every 10 minutes. I would love to get a better server so that I can write a lean C program that is always on, accepts item db information over UDP and has a single connection to the database that lives for the entirety of the program. At the moment, Abrosia does some batching, but each time a set of prices comes in, we have to load up the PHP interpreter and connect to the database.

    tl;dr: we're looking into it :)

Maybe we wouldn't need to switch servers if people wouldn't be worthless and spam all over the place like Juupon.
She joined yesterday and has seventy two posts already, absolutely ridiculous.

Hydro and I are currently annoyed about how much resources IPB is taking, so to save server costs when we are on a private server and to make our site more customizable and cooler, I think we're going to be redesigning the entire site in Django. :p This is going to take like a year to finish though, but we've already started, lol.

No offense to IPB, but forum software just can't efficiently provide the framework for an entire site, especially when their code is so bloated with all of these bells and whistles we don't need. Their IP.Content software, which we paid for regrettably, doesn't even compare to the customizability and the feature set of Django.

So basically, we want to move away from IPB. Oh the blasphemy, especially after using IPB for almost 7 years now. :p

It's going to be fun re-doing all the applications. :p

Yeah, and Hydro needed to take lots of time convincing me that this was a good idea. :p However, we don't mind doing the work... it will just happen over a very long period of time. :p Basically, we don't release the Django version of the site until we are able to serve members with the same services we could before. As far as we're concerned, this is a side project.. until it begins to overshadow the current site in capabilities, in which case we will switch over. :p

A lot of our applications are not very complex and are made to draw from data stored in the database. Django accelerates the development of these applications quite a bit actually, moreso than IPB.

    We'll see though. :p
