so i decided to start a legit account again...
what's the point of neopets?
is it to have a good looking pets?
or to collect as many trophies?
avatars?
have a large shop size?
or just to chat?

for you, what is your ultimate goal in neopets?

I suppose to everyone it's a different thing. For me, I just want to have the pets that I like the most.

I played Neopets on and off since I was like eleven. I just like making Neopoints. Also I would like to catch all 150 neopets.

    1) Economy. Neopets has one of the best economies out of many many mmorpg's. That's because there's such a good cash sink with people buying stuff in general for many various activities (i.e. Scratchcard, Hidden Tower, etc.) and TNT is good at freezing accounts with millions of neopoints. The fact that TNT has frozen so many accounts which results in MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of neopoints thrown out of the game is amazing and the fact that they have been able to sort of keep up with the standard in freezing people for illegit game playing, i have to congratulate them. Those who play/cheat too aggressively, well they knew the risk. Also, if you've noticed the trend, inflation in neopets has not gone up by much in the last 5-7 years which I find to be extremely astonishing. In fact, from what i've noticed, many of the items that we consider essential have gone down in price (food, codestones, maps, paintbrushes, etc).

    2) Does not have to occupy a lot of your time to play the game. Most of the time, people just do their dailies and pop into neopets page once in awhile.

    3) Nostalgia

    4) One of the best Battle Systems in any mmorpg imo. Just because of the huge variety of abilities, types of icons/attacks, and enormous database of weapons.

    5) Massive Player Database where you just can't find anywhere else.

    6) We don't even have to log in to play.

    7) Again, one of the best awards/collectors system in any mmorpg. Ranging from trying to complete an awesome gallery, obtaining shiny trophies, getting those robust avatars, etc.

    8) Neopoints. We all love neopoints. The more we have, the better we feel.

    9) Randomness

    10) Variety of pets/characters

    11) Friendly community (most of the time)

    12) Always events/plot/games to engage any player (Lenny Conundrum / Faerie Plot right now / Battledome/Neoquest........)

    13) Methods of making Neopoints, whether it'd be restocking, trading post, auctioning. We even have our own Stock Market. What other game has their own unique Stock Market???

As you can see from those 13 points, this is why there are so many people who still play neopets.

My goal right now is 20mill in pure/r99/retires. I'm not too close yet, but that's it for now. After that... I'd like to resell and invest high-priced items and possibly start malling. I just want NP. Lots of NP.

Maybe a nice gallery eventually as well. Something unique...

It's really pointless once you've beaten the game a couple times. I lost interest after the second time

The point of Neopets is to be entertained. Once you stop being entertained, there's really no point. My ultimate goal is to SS/Autotrain some stupid pet so I can participate if there's ever a plot

Its not about shop size. Get lots of np and train up a great named pet. Make it look nice if you want. Paint it something good. Choose a nice species.

If you want to lab then paint it something good later on. Optionally use clothes and stuff to make it prettier.

I've been wondering myself too. I guess it's what Bryan said, if you don't have fun while doing whatever on neopets, then it becomes pointless.
And by fun I mean real fun, not to feed any battledome/avatar/trophy addictions, cause then your mind is not balanced and you 're stressing out and acting impulsively. Just my 2 cents.

Once you've completed it there is no replay value apart from a speed run for the second run through to grab the achievments, I was bored doing the game a third time with my maxed out chars.

The point for me is to kill time, pretty much.
    Nothing else really...
Back then it was to RP (rofl) and make friends on the neochat but I no longer do that.

I've wondered this quite a bit. I think in the beginning, the Battledome was a big goal in the game, but now that it's seldomly updated and wars (weren't) happening, it kind of lost it's value. For me, I just like ripping off the economy by cheating and seeing I have a bunch of money.

It's busywork to keep me occupied when I'm bored, I guess.

Hmmm at this current point in time, I only play it to see a big number in the bank and have a strong pet.

    So basically for points 2, 6, 8, 12, 13 on contours list.

For me its a combination of a few things really: achieving my 4 themed accounts, collecting avatars and customisation.

The third one is what surprised me the most - I wasn't on Neo a lot when customisation was released and I thought I'd hate it, but actually, it's pretty addictive.
