Technically the best is the best for you. XP would be a good one...tho Im very partial to 2k Pro (like a rock!) Tho I just recently stopped running it due to my new quad core proc.

In Topic: How can I change my IP?

Easy, go to ipchicken.com, record the IP.
Unplug your router, modem, etc for about 30 seconds.
Plug it back in. If your IP hasn't changed, you most likely have a static IP.

Not really. It depends on the modem lease time on some ISP's. For Charter cable in the St. Louis area, I have to unplug my modem and unscrew my coax cable, and leave it like that for at least 4 hours before it will drop the lease & let me gain a new IP. Even if I loose power for 12+ hours, I can still come up with the same IP, even tho I'm listed as 'dymanic' & it does change (occasionally, if bad storms come thru and power drops, or they change some headend hardware, or I get pissed & just disconnect everything overnite.
In Topic: Is there a way to whitelist specific program on router firewall?

well it's not a windows firewall really... it's a firewall from the router. and I don't think I can convince my sister to turn it off, so I'm going to have to find out another way to bypass it
Check in teh advanced settings to see if there is a DMZ setting. If so, start --> run --> type cmd -- new black command prompt comes up, type ipconfig get your internet ip address (most likely 192.168.xxx.xx) take that number and shove it in the DMZ settings. DMZ takes outside of the firewall on your router. Easiest way to get around it, other than to figure out what ports your games use, and setup a bunch of rules, port forwards, passthrus, ect.
That or don't convince her to turn it off, just do it yourself, and change the modem/router passwd & tell her to get a software firewall.
