Anyone notice hes all fucked up in the beginning, rain dripping on his face and stuff, and also in the end he died, could it all just be a collection of his memories?

Also - Ben wasn't in the church, meaning he was still alive, thats why he didn't go inside when Hurley asked him if he was coming in.
