I think you have it backwards. Its way easier to commit crimes behind anonymity online, rather than in real life where there are much more real consequences.

No, if you can steal ... it's stealing. Regardless. Taking something that doesn't belong to you whether it be online or IRL.

No its extremely different. Once you experience a little bit more of the real world, you'll understand. Taking a virtual item is so much more different than when you're standing in a store, aware of the cameras watching every bead of sweat drip down your neck as you wonder whether or not you'll be caught stealing that food you desperately need to survive and to feed your kids back at your crummy apartment sublet to 12 different people, while at the same time that risk of jail time creeps into your mind, knowing it could all be over in a flash, leaving your life and your family in shambles.

Not to mention your kids wondering why their mommy didn't come home, and why they're being kicked out onto the streets.

Crime in real life carries heavy consequences that extend far beyond just you.

Stealing an MSPP on neopets at the end of the day is just 200M being frozen, and its rather meaningless in perspective.

Well....I don't think we should exclude the external chatting venues. Even if there wasn't an official channel, I'm sure members would make an unofficial one. Much like Yung and Neorealms.

I do not believe we should be attacking someone like this. Leave Argue alone. I know that pulling the programs was a dick more but still, let bygones be bygones. Stop being a child by singling him out like this. It's rude and unnecessary. If you want the programs so badly, write them yourself.

Sorry to burst your bubble but.

This is just the shop transfer method.

Those of us that have been around for a while know that there is a HUGE risk associated with the shop transfer method. Namely, ALL TRANSACTIONS ARE RECORDED.

The under 1000NP thing? Thats a lie, there's screenshot and email proof that I could dig up if you're really skeptical, but I can assure you 100% that TNT records and tracks all purchases in a shop, and that sending items at 1np via shop transfer sets off ALL KINDS OF FLAGS.

This is ESPECIALLY true for high end items, namely R200, R250, and certain R101 Cove items (SoWL is a big one), but the items you mentioned will set off flags as well. You may not be hit instantly with it, but you will be marked for a VERY NASTY chain freeze in the future

Do NOT do this with big items, and even doing it with small items will trigger off more flags than if you just gifted / tp'd items.

So yes, you may be on a lucky streak right now and haven't been frozen.

BUT

THIS IS NOT A SAFE METHOD TO TRANSFER ITEMS WITH. This is spoken from both evidence and personal experience. Take it as you will.

Advising people to not use the gift option?

That essentially assures the seller ZERO security when it comes to making a virtual sale via paypal.

In the event of a chargeback, if the payment was sent as a purchase, paypal will take the buyer's side 100% if the item being dealt was a virtual good.

The reason people use the gift option is to ensure a more difficult chargeback process (even scammers paying with gift have been able to win chargebacks before, this just shows the buyer power and how paypal will nearly ALWAYS side with the buyer), not to prevent fees.

If sellers begin taking payments as anything besides the gift option, I assure you the amount of chargebacks will increase, beceause it comes at NO RISK to the buyer. They can pay any amount of money they wish, buy things using hundreds of dollars, and be virtually assured that all their money will return home the second they initiate a chargeback.

The difference with sending money as a gift is that you CAN'T initiate a chargeback unless you choose the "unauthorized payment" option, which means you are claiming your paypal was hacked. This makes it a longer process for the scammer who is trying to chargeback, and often has about a 30% winrate for the seller, as opposed to ZERO if the payment was sent as a purchase.

I have had a history of dealing with virtual goods for over 7 years, and I have never won a single case when the buyer initiated a chargeback if the payment was sent as a purchase.
