Remember Safe and Sound? How she sounded decent on track?

Look how The Civil Wars kick her ass. And from all the awkward glances Joy and John give each other + the way Ms Swift wears that smile more uncomfortably than a beaver, everybody knows it.

Silly child, you don't realize how protected you are from some of this. I still hear hurtful things said about my daughter, I still get called a heathern, one of her friends asked was it true that she ate dog (she does not, I have). You think, that maybe a parent does not want that shit for their child, that if you have a choice between a traditional spouse and someone with vastly different culture that a parent does not what they feel is the "best" culture and values for there child?

Firstly, 'Heathen'.

Secondly, discrimination against you is unavoidable; it's up to YOU to decide if you want to join in and perpetuate the cycle. I understand how good and loving parents would want the best for their children, and a union between individuals of similar cultures might seem best to them. I am not in any way repudiating that.

HOWEVER, the point here, which you have missed (and i'm sorry that you did), is that individuals DO NOT NEED TO BE OF THE SAME RACE/RELIGION/CULTURE/SPECIES to empathise/accept/coexist. What more between a match where there is love to bind them together.

Granted, mistakes will be made. Hurt will happen. But in relationships, hurt ALWAYS happens. Ultimately, what matter most is whether that hurt is worth it.

If your kids really do bring home somebody you do not agree with (because of different cultures/beliefs etc), I really do hope you'll give it your all to make them happy. Because if you are the loving parent you claim you are, support is what your kids need. And if their relationships really do break down, I really do think they'd prefer your comfort to your ire.

If I am a 'silly child' for wanting to break the perpetual cycle of hate and discrimination, so be it. Better a 'silly child' than a grown up who has lost faith in people.

The last girl I went steady with was this sweet girl I met from church. Brought her home to meet the parents and they were cool about it, but I could tell they weren't very pleased. I didn't realise why until after the 'Honeymoon' phase wore off and crap hit the fan. On hindsight, it was immediately obvious we weren't compatible, but nobody plucked up the guts to tell me that to my face. I just wished they did, cos' I ditched a right number of opportunities to try making things work.

Communication's best methinks. If they got issues with your date/steady/fiancée, better to hash it out. You'd never know, they might open your eyes, or better yet, you might open theirs.
