#1807914 Does the duping REALLY hurt the economy?

Posted by Karyx on 02 October 2014 - 07:32 PM

My thoughts on this issue:

1) MSPP avatar users will whine but have to suck it up. The avatar just isn't that hard to obtain anymore. Its only novelty was that the MSPP (TCG) was very hard to obtain. The item itself is virtually useless.

2) SuAP owners will cry themselves to sleep at night because they thought it'd be a good investment and/or they are reselling. Battledome has been rendered obsolete and very few people actually care about 2-Player BD enough to see this powerful BD item back in circulation. Again, it's mostly just a novelty for the avatar.

3) The duped NP might make it out of accounts they were made in, Dan has mentioned he's spent 500mil on various shops/trades/auctions, but most will probably lay stagnant, as with most of the NP already being hoarded by people who have max NP.

4) Draiks will be more accessible, maybe encourage not-so-frequent users to come play a bit more so they can get one for themselves. The only thing this hurts are pet traders, but I don't really care much for them, so screw them really. PDEs were already cheap to begin with anyway. Same with PBs.

To answer your question: No, I don't think it will affect the economy at all. It might deter people from buying these higher-end items for a time, but it'll pass, especially if it's seen that TNT isn't really taking any actions against those duped items. The Neopian Economy is already a bust due to the number of players actually still playing, it might actually do them some good to have some things be easily obtainable.

Feelings get hurt, investments sink, people will bitch. Especially the people who take pleasure in owning such rare items or a ton of NP. Those people can go suck it lol

People on the Neoboards are so butthurt.

Yeah hoarding that SuAP for 10 years is now pretty much useless, you can step off your high horse now.

#1805787 Are Grades in School a Reflection of Your Potential Success in Life?

Posted by Karyx on 28 September 2014 - 02:59 PM

I'd venture to say most employers don't bother looking at GPA, or even ask for it.

This.

Unless you're going into an academic/research field, most of the things you need to learn in life, you don't really ever learn in a classroom.

I suppose to some degree your grades do matter in that you learn to work hard to achieve a goal, but they don't really matter when you're out there really having to cope with the pressures and demands of the work environment. I won't go so far as to say they don't completely matter, I mean you have to teach your kid to aim high in life and certainly trying to get good grades is the best way you can teach them that, but it's good to let them know that you're also not a complete failure if you don't get a perfect GPA. It kind of just feels that way when you're in school, that bad grades means you'll suck at life forever.

Not everyone tests well. Some people are just better with their hands than with their heads. Doesn't mean they'll go on to become crackwhores and hobos. The problem with standardized tests is that people aren't at all standard, there's no one way to gauge someone's success by what you put on paper.

I think this helps illustrate my point.

Spoiler

oh i see, thanks!!!  Does it mean it is buying too fast when it does that?

No, it's just meant to show you your buy times (I think it's Valorous addressing an earlier comment on the issue of the program not showing the buy time :)) If you didn't mess with your original settings, you'll be ok.

#1805085 April 10th Food Club Bets

Why havent the betting gates closed yet?

It's been that way for a few days since the transition. Not sure when the bets go through, exactly. But the rounds still go through at some point during the day. Just not sure what time exactly atm.

TNT did mention Timed Content will be a little off for a while.

#1804931 28 Safe and Easy Trophies ~

Posted by Karyx on 25 September 2014 - 06:33 AM

Never thought of Grarrl Keno and Brain Tree quests before...guess I know what I'll be doing first of the month :p

Maybe add Minesweeper into the mix? There's a GM script for it and the one on the Program Manager. Not a lot of people play so getting a trophy is pretty easy at the first of the month.

Also, there's a Fetch! Helper available that maps the path you've already taken.

If it's a case of not being able to remember your birthday, I suggest trying to log in to http://www.petpetpark.com/ to reset all of your details, including your email. I've known people to get back their accounts this way.

If it's a forgotten password though, then it'd be no help :/

#1796348 Disgusting pigs

Posted by Karyx on 22 August 2014 - 06:25 AM

The way I normally go about this is look at it as if I were in their shoes.

If I were the guy holding a knife, advancing toward the police after being told to put it down, and yelling "Shoot me now", I'd expect to get shot. That's how, as a rational person, I'd expect the situation to turn out.

If I were a police officer faced with a man advancing with a weapon, among people, I'd tell them to stop and drop the knife. Should they fail to do that and continue advancing, all the while provoking me with "Shoot me now, kill me now" with no sign of stopping, I'd shoot. The job is to make the call that will protect the public. What you're forgetting is that these officers were called to the scene knowing this man could be potentially dangerous, and had already committed a crime.

Had he actually stopped advancing and yelling at the police and instead dropped the knife, then yeah he would be facing criminal charges. The original post seems to have missed the fact that he hadn't stopped when told to do so. What would have made them "Disgusting pigs" is if the man had already put the knife down and surrendered, then proceeded to shoot him anyway. I'm not sure what police protocol is exactly, but I'm certain they were within their bounds to do as they did since it was a deadly weapon. We can all say things about this now in hindsight, but for those officers, they had to make a call and I'm sure it's not one they will live with easily.

@Elindoril
I'd very much like to be Totoro, haha :)

@Strategist

Thanks! :*

@punkrockbigmouth
No, definitely only the cool kids wear the leather jackets.  :unsure: Definitely not nerdy. The most I've gotten was a Hogwarts School sweatshirt (you can't wear leather where I'm at, it'd kill you xD) I do have my own wand, however!

@Rocket

Thanks :D I love your cat-stache, haha.

@Satsuki

Yay, another Ghibli fan! I take it that's you cosplaying Kiki? Adorable! <3 That's my second favourite Ghibli movie, after Howl's Moving Castle (I don't rank Tonari no Totoro because he has a special place in my heart, hah)
