It annoys me greatly when people write formal essays in first person. Quite frankly, I don't care what you personally think if I am reading an essay on a Classic. Just tell me how you interpreted the book without throwing in 'I', 'my', etc

Dexter, Hannibal, The Walking Dead, Supernatural. The new series that came out a few weeks ago, Waverly Pines or something, is also really good.
