I like your outcome better than the tutorials outcome - the tutorial outcome looks more fake, almost like a computer graphic image rather than a retouched photo.

I have a magazine that gives some retouching tips, and I think one of its tutes provides a better result - it's more natural and realistic. I can't remember the name of the mag, and my brother is borrowing it at the moment, so I can't tell you which one it is.

Anyway, good effort

Thanks for the replies.

I'm a minimalist by nature, hence the 'simplified' background. I've always like a clear cut point of focus - which of course in this image is the render.

My graphical work has always been clean-cut and understated. I did manage to achieve high-distinctions for all of my work and win awards for my designs when I was at university. But then as I said - signatures aren't really my expertise, so it's an area I'm learning about.

It seems less-isn't-more when it comes to signatures - suppose, I'll have to grin and bear it :p

An aura emanating from Phoenix is an interesting concept. Might take a look at that if I get the motivation to go back over this piece. Still can't seem to get the text right. I don't know if I'm having troubles with typeface, position, all of the above, or something completely different.

I really like it - blue is my favourite colour and that shade of blue is really great. I love the light foggy effect you have going there, it makes the scene look cold and eerie.

Though I'm not 100% about the text. Maybe it's the light source over the top of it or the typeface you used. I don't know - text is not one of my strong points, so it's hard to me to describe exactly what it is.

For what it's worth (and probably not much) ... if it were me I would sit down with my mother and (calmly and rationally) tell her that I know she's been reading my diary. I would go on to explain how I feel like my privacy has been violated, and that I am feeling hurt and angry, and most importantly disappointed in her for breaking my trust in her.

The message gets across the best if you speak to her calmly and coolly. Blowing your stack will likely only aggravate the situation.

In hindsight that's what I should have done anyway. When it happened to me I was like 13 or 14 or something (I'm 26 now, so it was too long ago to remember :p ) ... I retaliated with anger and yelled and ranted and raved ... and it didn't fix things. Nor did it really make me feel better. Ah the knowledge we find in hindsight!

K
Kabes (my initials are K.B., so I used to get KayBee and then it morphed to Kabes)
Tink (after Tinkerbell, cause I was a mischevious lil brat when I was younger)
Sis (by my brother :p)
Milf or Hot Mami (by one of my friends)
And I used to get called Supagirl by my partner, but now he usually calls me Babe. He's the one that called me a Peanut and started the saying that I was 'crazier than a coconut'.
