Nymh's a LOSER!

Doing great!

Posted by Nymh, 23 September 2014 · 910 views

It's probably all in my head but I am doing GREAT on the keto diet. I fondly call it "ketology" in my head. Instead of ketosis I usually end up saying "ketolysis" in my head, too.

So after day three I can say that I am:
  • A lot less hungry
  • A lot less bitchy
  • A lot less tired
  • About three pounds lighter
I am loving this so far. Coming off a diet of high carbs and low fat, it's a big mental shift and I'm already getting some questions ("So... how does that work with heart disease?") but the doctor I work for was actually really encouraging and said that he knew it was proven to work well for diabetics because of the lowered insulin response, and that even though it was counterintuitive, it was really good for weight loss.

Yesss.

I accidentally consumed like a bazillion carbs tonight though because I had two shots of a liqueur which is apparently all sugar.

Changing my Diet

Posted by Nymh, 21 September 2014 · 755 views

So I've decided that this low fat, high carb mostly vegetarian lifestyle isn't working for me. I think I have too much going on in my body for me to work well with so many carbs. I've been eating 1400-1600 calories a day (sometimes less) and exercising as regularly as I can manage while being pretty depressed and constantly exhausted. It's not working. I have not lost a pound in months. In fact, I've continued to gain weight. On a diet of salads and fruit. It's not working.

So, in true Nymh fashion, I'm going to go the exact opposite direction and try a high fat, low carb diet.

I've seen the success that Napiform and more recently Rocket have had with their diet changes, and I've spent much of the last two days reading and learning about what they're doing. I started changing my diet today. I did my calculations, adjusted my macros, and ate high fat and low carb today.

So let's see what happens. I'm excited to see what kind of changes I'm going to go through. Yay!

Running

weight loss, running, exercise and 1 more...
Now that we're settled into our groove here in Nashville, I have begun running again. I jogged two miles this morning and 2.6 this evening. I know I'm going to be sore but it's SOOO GOOOOD.

I need to decide on a new half marathon to register for now that we are in Tennessee. Luckily the Nashville area hosts tons of races so they're not in short supply. I should probably do some 5k's before I do the half... Hmmmmm!

I'm sad that the competition is ending. I want it to keep going. I'm going to keep posting my progress here. I might get brave enough to post progress pictures eventually (probably after there is noticeable progress...) :p

June CHALLENGES

abs, thighs, ass, arms, victory
So, I have decided to make June the month of CHALLENGES.

I am taking on abs, thighs, butt and arms challenges this month. The calendars/plans for the challenges are in the spoiler below~
Spoiler

I am using them to create a workout list every day. For the butt workout, I made a hybrid of the squat challenge and the butt challenge. In the beginning days I will probably end up doing far more than what the challenges say to do, so we'll see how this turns out near the end!

Beginning Again

Posted by Nymh, 20 April 2014 · 752 views

~~Some Backstory~~
So, a while back I made the commitment to lose some weight. It worked out really well - I lost 55 pounds (having just gained 60 from having two babies in a row). I jogged 3-4 times a week and went to the gym regularly. Then I got depressed, got chronically ill, made some major life changes, and slowly stopped taking care of myself.

One of the tools that really helped me the first time around was SparkPeople.com. I logged my food, water intake and exercise daily. I took the site with me everywhere by way of their mobile app. At some point, they decided to start charging for their app, and I stopped using it. I stopped going to the site, as well. HOWEVER I just went back to the site to restart my weight loss trackers and their app is FREE AGAIN!!

I haven't used the new version of the app, so I can't testify as to how great it probably is, but the old app was amazing so I'm sure it is as well. It interfaced with your profile on the website and they had thousands of foods in their database, as well as any exercises I would care to track as well.

My referral link to the site is right here, if you want to check it out. <-- if you join using my link, I get points on my profile. This is really of no benefit to me except inflating my e-peen, like +reps here.

~~My Current Situation~~
I may have a thyroid disorder - my doctor is running a comprehensive metabolic panel to see what all is out of whack, which I should get the results of tomorrow.

I currently weigh 158 pounds, haven't jogged or exercised in about three years. I wear size 10-12 jeans.

My measurements are:
Chest: 36
Bust: 38
Waist: 32
Lower Abdomen: 41 <--- THIS is what I want to work on most of all. I despise my stomach.
Hips: 41

If all you saw was my bust/waist/hips measurement you'd probably be like "hay gurrl you got some sexy curves you're perfect ermagerd" but no. It's that sneaky FUPA that just throws it all to shit.

There are some other piddly things I am tracking on SparkPeople too like my thighs, arms, neck and crap like that but the numbers above are the major ones.

~~My Goals~~
I want to start running again, and do a half-marathon by the end of the year. As a matter of fact, I think I'll go search for one right now and sign up for it.
I want to get down to 120 pounds, or a size 6.
I want my lower abdomen measurement to be somewhere respectably BETWEEN my hip measurement and my waist measurement.
I want to feel better.
I want to think clearer. My mind has become a cotton ball of dullness lately. I am sluggish, can't think clearly and get confused way too easily. I freaking hate it.
I want to go vegan again.
I want to wake up earlier. I've gotten into a really bad habit of sleeping in until the last possible minute, then rolling out of bed and stumbling to work.

ALRIGHT I've found a race that I am going to register for - the Renfro Rock n' Run in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky. WHOOP WHOOP! :D
