I was thinking, since there isnt a use for the rep, maybe this can change, and need for advanced status, like 300posts, and 30rep, and maybe a good post that helps the comunnity. I dont know, just my two cents

I was thinking today about the amount of spam posts and repleis that there are in the forum, due to the goal to reach 500post. I think that there should be a more balanced way to determine the "advanced status", because this system generates spam, and anyone, no matter what, can get to 500post.

How about a lower post requirement like 300, but your postcount decays by 1 post a day?

yea, i understand you.. but still, i think that someone that gets 500post posting crap all day long, and someone that goes around trying to do something helpull for other shouldnt have the same benefits i know its a lot of hard work, but maybe they could find a point in the middleI still don't like the rep thing. I've helped out the people many many times and my rep dosen't reflect that.

I think a better idea may be a weekly/monthly competition of sorts where people can nominate things that members have done which have been particularly useful to other users, such as making a good guide etc. We could then reward the best efforts with rewards like 50 added on their post count or something to create alternative ways to get closer to Advanced other than making lots of posts.

And so what if older members come back from a 5 year hiatus to find that they have their post count below 300?. If they havn't been on they havn't been "contributing" "now" even if they had been "contributing" in the past.

Post count would only be decreased during the days that you use the program.
And after a lot of posts (maybe 1000) and time on codex (1 year?), your post count wouldn't get decreased at all.

Helpful post reporting will help "reduce spam" while people are going up to 300, if they get awarded counts at the end of the week, amount depending on how much the mods think the post is worth. But you can't expect people to make guides. Theres already a guide for everything, helpful would have to be really general whether its answering a question in detail, or helping someone out with something.

All the users that I think are helpful already have 500 posts lulz.
Except for sLAUGHTER. But he's a programmer.
If you actually help, 500 is easyy.
All that does is create more hassle for the mods/admins.
It should be a system that works and can run on its own.

thats where i wanted to get but i dont know, i just threw in a couple of ideas...It would provide greater incentive for people to contribute to the forum in other ways than posting though.

I can't stand rep systems where people are constantly asking for "+rep if I helped..." or, "will + rep if you do my... (homework)"
Posted 22 May 2011 - 08:23 AM
Do something like what i suggested in which +rep gives more post count and make it so that its against the forum rules to ask for +rep.

Do you know how much work it would take to police that? That won't happen.
