"If only my heart were stone." - Cormac McCarthy, The Road.

“The only thing more painful than being an active forgetter is to be an inert rememberer.”- Jonathan Safran Foer, Everything Is Illuminated.

So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more dangerous to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.” - Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild

Talk softly please.  I have been engaged in experiments which suggest that the atom can be artificially disintegrated.  If it is true, it is of far greater importance than a war.

Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird (To Kill a Mockingbird- Harper Lee)

Not my favorite quote, it bothers me a bit that for its vagueness, it could be interpreted as differences by birth justify preferential treatment.

“You musn’t be afraid of the dark.’
‘I’m not, I’m afraid of the people in the dark.” (American Gods- Neil Gaiman)

I can believe things that are true and things that aren't true and I can believe things where nobody knows if they're true or not. (American Gods- Neil Gaiman)

Everybody going to be dead one day, just give them time. (Anansi Boys- Neil Gaiman)

Vivian Jaffe: Have you ever transcended space and time?

Albert Markovski: Yes. No. Uh, time, not space... No, I don't know what you're talking about.

Spoiler

Donnie: Why are you wearing that stupid bunny suit?

Frank: Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?

Dr. Lilian Thurman: Donnie, what did Roberta Sparrow say to you?

"But I don’t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can’t help that," said the Cat: "we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad."
"How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here.”
― Lewis CarrollAlice in Wonderland

I like this one. It's very ominous, a vague sense of dread that comes with it I find that I quite like, it represents, to me, the fear of knowing the subjectivity that can exist within reality. It's the only one I can think of, as of now, since it's the book I have only most recently read.

"Well, you're about to go home. Right down to hell."

"None of you seem to understand. I'm not locked in here with you... you're locked in here with me!" - Rorschach, Watchmen

"God didn't kill that little girl. Fate didn't butcher her. Destiny didn't feed her to those dogs. If God saw what any of us did that night, he didn't seem to mind. From then on I knew; God doesn't make the world this way, we do." - Rorschach, Watchmen

"so like, right now for example. the haitians need to come to america. but some people are all, “what about the strain on our resources?” well it’s like when i had this garden party for my father’s birthday, right? i put r.s.v.p. ’cause it was a sit-down dinner. but some people came that like did not r.s.v.p. i was like totally buggin’. i had to haul ass to the kitchen, redistribute the food, and squish in extra place settings. but by the end of the day it was, like, the more the merrier.and so if the government could just get to the kitchen, rearrange some things, we could certainly party with the haitians. and in conclusion may i please remind you it does not say r.s.v.p. on the statue of liberty. thank you very much."
- cher, clueless (1995)

"why are you guys so anti-dictators? imagine if america was a dictatorship. you could let 1% of the people have all the nation's wealth. you could help your rich friends get richer by cutting their taxes. and bailing them out when they gamble and lose. you could ignore the needs of the poor for health care and education. your media would appear free, but would secretly be controlled by one person and his family. you could wiretap phones. you could torture foreign prisoners. you could have rigged elections. you could lie about why you go to war. you could fill your prisons with one particular racial group, and no one would complain. you could use the media to scare the people into supporting policies that are against their interests. "
- general aladeen, the dictator (2012)

Rumack: Captain, how soon can you land?

Captain Oveur: I can't tell.
Rumack: You can tell me. I'm a doctor.
Captain Oveur: No. I mean I'm just not sure.
Rumack: Well, can't you take a guess?
Captain Oveur: Well, not for another two hours.
Rumack: You can't take a guess for another two hours?

Witness: Striker was the squadron leader. He brought us in real low. But he couldn't handle it.

Prosecutor: Buddy couldn't handle it? Was Buddy one of your crew?
Witness: Right. Buddy was the bombardier. But it was Striker who couldn't handle it, and he went to pieces.
Prosecutor: *Andy* went to pieces?
Witness: No. Andy was the navigator. He was all right. Buddy went to pieces. It was awful how he came unglued.
Prosecutor: *Howie* came unglued?
Witness: Oh, no. Howie was a rock, the best tailgunner in the outfit. Buddy came unglued.
Prosecutor: And he bailed out?
Witness: No. Andy hung tough. Buddy bailed out. How he survived, it was a miracle.
Prosecutor: Then Howie survived?
Witness: No, 'fraid not. We lost Howie the next day.
