That makes sense. I think you're being unfair though, you might not think you have special qualities but he does. No reason to say he's lonely or desperate, he has a mind of his own and if he's happy with the relationship, good for him. If you find you share those feelings and you think he's nice, then there shouldn't be a problem. Let it play out.
