Nope to attention either. The girl will feel forced and she have to decide in a matter of seconds while the guy gets whatever amount of time he need to plan it. A imitate setting would be desirable.

I've never cared about place and time, if the emotions are right while watching tv, then proposing right there will be fine for me (perhaps mute the tv first though ). My worst nightmare is a public proposal though, I don't like being the center of attention.

Take her somewhere nice, a place that means something to both you and her. propose to her there. Also make sure it's not somewhere you need to drive to, or else that drive back could really suck if she says no.

Oh man. I couldn't agree more.
I confessed to a girl I liked about 4 years ago and we were all the way up at Genting (some resort mountain casino place in Kuala Lumpur). Stupid me thought it was a good idea to confess on the last night there. Confession failed, friendship lost. The 6hour bus trip back felt like it took forever. |:

My husband used to be a real estate agent....
We had a naughty but fun habit of going to houses on the market and watching movies or hanging out... or taking advantage of all the beer renters leave in the fridge before housekeeping tosses it.
Well one night he proposed to me on one of our little excursions.
I know most girls probably don't imagine something like that, but it was romantic because it was something we would only do together.
