You have to know her to get it right.
You can do the classic, romantic dinner/candles/blah blah blah. But its better if you choose something that is special to both of you.
For instance.
What about the place you had your first date? Is there somewhere that she likes better then everywhere else? What is the most important thing in your relationship?
Make it unique to your special relationship. Anyone can take her to a fancy place and put the ring in the dessert. Make it special. Prove to her that you care.

It's like that one where you put it in the wine glass. Or or or or in the cake. Or, PUT IT ON HER DOG HARHARHAR.I like the ones where you take your girl to the beach and ask them to take a look in the water, like you're surprised. "Holy fuck whats that in the water!?!" (Not like that though..) and then they take a look to find a ring in there (:
Don't be stupid. If you care about the girl, you'll come up with a way to propose. Just remember that the best proposals are when emotions are running highest and it's a complete surprise.

leave clues around the house in / under random things, and hint towards stuff, then after she gets the final clue have her go to a room (where you are waiting on one knee)....
with that kind of a proposal, she can't say no

I taught myself piano because it is the most special instrument in my opinion. Every single key seems to strike deep within, rather then just sounding like music. But no one has ever seen my play. I feel too vulnerable whenever I play. Like I am opening up myself and leaving myself ready to be attacked. Despite the fact that my parents owned the Piano, they haven't even see me play.
So I plan to play, How to save a life for her, and then ask her to marry me.
I wouldn't want to marry a girl who didn't get how big of a deal that is to me.

How to save a life is actually written about how he tried to talk a young person out of suicide. But hopefully your future wife finds it romantic.I have no idea how this will help, but anyways, here is how I will do it.

aka like pull the ring outta her ear and be like oh whats this? will you marry me (or i think we're meant to be, will you marry me)
Something cheesy like that works, always depends how much you want to spend for the proposal, you could lift it up with some heart shaped balloons outta a box?

You'll give her half of your lifetime and in return she also give you half of hers.

This is probably the most epic proposal I've seen.
Bust most of all, just be yourself, and make sure you're ready.

You are obviously putting a lot of effort into this so just do as you see fit, I'm sure she will love everything you do if she is ready for a proposal.

as for your question have a night out, party, see a movie or two. then spend the night under the stars and watch the sun rise.
im sure you'll find the perfect opportunity to time to get down on one knee during the sun rise

lol. Just imagine you going out with a girl for 3 years, planning to propose to her and doing this. She says she hates the piano. BREAK UP.
If you don't have the money to do an extravagant proposal just do it the classic way.

Oh my God, that is so cute I actually squealed.
Oh, and I second the public thing. It's weird. It should be something private.

It's just as well he was the one to propose. I'd probably have done it at a gig or Legoland or something, because I'm terrible at romance.

Well if your girl likes attention it should be done somewhere public though, it really depends on the person!
And scratch my idea, I liked the scavenger hunt better!

I'm gonna take a gamble here and say the person you replied to was female. The cute squeely part might have given it away.

Personally, I like spontaneous stuff but i can't say the same for your girlfriend. I'd MUCH rather my boyfriend waking up one morning and saying i want to marry you today, as opposed to proposing over an overly expensive dinner, with months of hectic planning for an overly expensive wedding and getting married a year later. But that's just me and how i'd like to be proposed to. If she's NOT like me, i suggest doing it Jim and Pam style.
CLICK!
... have i shown you this before? I feel like i've shown you this before. Well, either way. I miss you.

Otherwise, I would suggest something like a holiday (Don't need to be so uberspensive, just some secluded cabin somewhere) and pop the question when the mood's right? Cheaper than some fancy thingamajig, depending on where you book in.
