iPhones are good, and Android phones. I have an LG Ally, it's an android. My mom has a Droid 2, that phone is awesome too.

Laptop: Hunt around on deal websites like slickdeals until you find one that you like, it really depends on what you do with the blackberry/iphone, blackberrys are more for business, at least in my opinion

For the laptop. Get an HP from costco. If you buy from costco you will have a free 2 year warranty and the best support you have ever had.

As for a phone. Dont get an iphone. Ever.

Either get an andriod, or a Windows 7 phone. I have yet to play around enough with a windows 7 phone, but everything I have done with it has been awesome. And the andriod as sooo much more open to do whatever the fuck you want with it. Thats important.

as for laptop, i've been looking into an hp i5 460m. looks pretty sweet. just keeping options open for a bit longer.

Don't listen to these haters of the iPhone who don't even have one...

Cool. Then you can listen to me.

My mom has an Iphone 4. My sister has a Windows 7 phone, and my brother has an HTC Evo.

I get to play around with these phones all the time. And guess who is the only person who has ever came to me with a problem? My mom.

Hers also fucked up like yours did, and yes Apple did replace it. Like they should have given it was like 2 months old and it already broke. You will get that warranty from any phone company.

The iphone lacks several thousand features, and makes up for it with shiny gimmicks.

what are other types of phones that can facetime. i really like that feature lol.

Facetime is a fail implementation of a decent idea.

Just get a laptop that comes with a webcam, and get skype, and forget about using this retarded facetime feature. (Which can only be used if your on wifi... so basically your at home anyways. Might as well get better picture quality)

I'm not sure how tech savvy your mom is but wouldn't you say if all 3 of them had the same phone your mom would still be coming to you with the most problems?

Actually. Shes yet to have a problem with her Windows 7 laptop. :|

She comes to me with some problems that seem to be the phone because I have to reload it to fix the problem, and sometimes yes, it is just her. :p But my sister is also technically retarded and if she had anything go wrong at all, I am the first she calls.

I have an iPhone and I love it, wouldn't change it for anything, never had any problems. I'd also like to know some of the thousand features it's lacking, because so far, anything that I've needed it for, it has. For example, for easy to find stores with it's GPS and maps, able to do instant banking, wherever I am, able to find the scores of the basketball/hockey games, able to watch the basketball/hockey games, thousands of fun time killing games, good camera, youtube, find the weather anywhere in the world, financial planning, good calendar to keep track of meetings/appointments, instant stock updates, team viewer to control my computer at home from anywhere, and skype, just to name a few. I don't know about yous but personally that's way more then I'll ever need a phone for. It also helps that I've never had a problem with service or 3g network.

That being said I've never had a blackberry or android phone. (Because I've never had a reason to switch from the iPhone in the past 3-4 years) A lot of my friends complain about their blackberry not working though.

I have an LG Eve. Hate it. However, I do give props to the Android operating system.

I can't stand touch screens so the IPhone's pretty much not an option for me. Plus the fact that there's no expandable memory makes me look for something else

What I would say is if you like apps, games, flashy display and all that jazz get an IPhone. If you like functionality, get a BlackBerry. I have friends with both blackberries and Iphones and it's a personal preference.

Boy has an IPhone 4, I had a Blackberry Curve 8900 for a fair while and now have an HTC Desire.

I've never really taken to the iPhone, they're very shiny but we've had more problems with that than the rest of the technology in the house put together. :p I'm not an Apple fan at the best of times though, we have an iMac which is really the Boy's work computer which I don't mind using from time to time but I've always refused to become part of the iPod generation. :p

Blackberries are fine but they're more about functionality than anything. They've made very vague attempts to appeal to more than the business sector but at the end of the day, they're still about being a phone with good email pushing capabilities. I was happy enough with the Curve and would have upgraded to the Torch but I really dislike slide mechanism phones. :( I do miss my qwerty keypad though.

I've found the android a nice mix to be honest, practical and not too gimicky without being overly formal.

    Most honest opinion posted yet.

Crackberries are great if you can't put your phone down. Personally, I hate witnessing the onset of carpal tunnel in some fourteen year old, hunched over a crackberry trying to type out that three page text message with their thumbs. Same with clueless businessmen, trying to compose full length email from their phones. At least on the iPhone you're not depressing keys every time you need to text. Maybe no one else has issues with phone keyboards, I dunno. Its just a very repetitive, stressful motion that I cannot stand, so I don't.

I have an iPhone 3G, but I've used it essentially as a GPS/Phone and nothing else for the past year. I didn't have a compatible PC/Mac to plug it into, so music and firmware updates were few and far between. That said, I've never had a problem with functionality, even when I wasn't updating it regularly. I get email pushed to my phone, same as the rest of the current gen phones, and I have FB for iPhone. What else do you need to do from your phone? Shop? Fuck that. I don't think the amount of Apps available should weigh in on your decision at all... most carriers have App marketplaces now. And FaceTime is a gimmick pure and simple. Both parties have to have iPhone 4Gs, and then you've got to hold the phone at an awkward angle so your face is framed for the other party.

As for laptops... what are you looking for? Your price range is right between the netbook and compact genres.

I adore Apple, but no way in Hell would I get an iPhone. After owning the iPod Touch, I've decided that texting on that thing is just not for me. It's HELL. Seriously. If you're a big fan of texting, I would recommend a phone with a full physical qwerty keypad. Also the iPhone 4 looks like a brick. Not at all curvy and sexalicious like the previous ones.

I've owned two BlackBerrys. The Pearl pretty much sucks. Again because I'm a huge fan of texting and messaging. I'm not sure what the latest 9100 is like, but I'm thinking it's just too small to use without getting a cramp. The Curve 8520 is perfect.

Personally I'm not a Mac fan, due to the OS. I've used Windows all my life. I've heard good things about Toshiba, Sony, and HP. Stay away from Dell if you're getting a cheapish laptop like the Inspiron. I've witnessed many many hinges breaking after a year of usage. They don't seem to handle the heat well. Lenovo is more geeky.

I have a Droid, I like it. To be honest, just get whatever is cheap for phones. You're going to be replacing it every 2 years anyways. And with this 4g nonsense coming out, you're probably gonna be looking to switch soon anyways.

For the laptop, just find something on sale with a warranty. Costco, Best Buy whatever. You're not really gonna net too much performance for that price anyways.

I've got the Torch and my sister has the iPhone. The sole reason that I prefer the Torch over the iPhone is the physical keyboard available for slideout. I really like the full touch screen and enjoy the things you can do with it, but sometimes I just don't wanna type on a touch screen. Plus, BBM!

I would agree with this but NEVER get a Toshiba. I have one and they have horrific warranty and the machine itself tends to start malfunctioning pretty much 7 months into use.
Also check if the laptop you buy is "open box" (if it has been used previously or if the warranty is activated earlier)

Unless you have a specific use for a laptop (CAD work, gaming, photoshop, etc), I would just get a fairly inexpensive laptop. It's very "luck of the draw" on when your laptop might hit the shitter. I've had Lenovo's that messed up in less than a year (a very reputable brand) and my friend's Acer (pretty bad brand) still kicking after 3 years.

Well I truly distrust HP but then again iargue said they're not bad so I wouldn't know.
I just had this belief that HP only sells printers and their laptops are soso. But it's really how you treat your laptop and what precautions you do right at the beginning.. I'm not sure but my Toshiba has been pretty roughed up and I've only had it for about a year.

alright guys thanks for all of your feedback. for laptop, i purchased a hp i5 460m 4 gig ram (will add more) . its pretty awesome, i am just installing all of the useless programs they pre install which is troublesome. some people have advised to wipe my drive but i am relatively lazy to find the drivers lol. besides some of the programs are pretty neat.

as for phone i can't make up my mind, i am just going to stick with my iphone 3g until something awesome comes out.
