You have to admit they have us by the balls. I mean what would happen if China stopped buying U.S. bonds and started dumping them?

This thread is now about Travis' disinformation.

Then all the USD that China owns would be worthless.

They can't knock us down without shooting themselves in the foot.

Hahaa. I agree with her too, i've only just seen brief parts in the news this morning but so far i'd guess that america is the litter country here.

That's why they more than likely wont, i think there just trying to make a point or threaten them or something. - Really need to research on it though.

Other people would buy US bonds, china has a shitton of people. So they obviously buy a shitton. Doesnt mean they are the only people in the world.

Considering that hes posting about who holds our National Debt, I would say that he is still very well informed.

Not to mention that they traded over 366 billion dollars worth of goods with us last year.

Somebody explain what country can replace that kind of buying power? We basically atleast half of China's economy. I would say they are fucked without us. We may be fucked without them (India has a shitton of people. I think they can take over China's job)

Hahaa. I agree with her too, i've only just seen brief parts in the news this morning but so far i'd guess that america is the litter country here.

litter country here? Do you mean littler country? Because then yes. China both has a bigger population then we do, and is much bigger then we are.

But let me show you this handy graph by google (They do graphs so well)

    http://www.google.co...=49&hl=en&dl=en

    Our GDP is 14 trillion.
    China's GDP is 4 trillion.

I dont need to be a math whiz to know which one is bigger (Hint, you where wrong).

Really? You think china is going to gain 10 trillion dollars worth of GDP in just 2 years? Really?

Lets look at their growth so far.

In 70 years, we have grown about 13.5 trillion dollars in GDP, while china has grown 4 trillion.

So either they will have to learn how to turn rice into gold, steal the moon and hold it ransom, take over the rest of the world.

Tiny little Japan is beating China in GDP still.... (And they have no natural resources left!)

As you are so good at using Google, perhaps you should do a bit more research on Chinas GDP. Also look at what some of the worlds greatest economists (included those in the US) are trying to tell the world about China's economy.

I'll give you 1 link to start with.

This article predicts china will over take the US economy by 2020. Note the article was written in 2009 and makes mention of the fact Chinas economy will start to grow more rapidly as of mid 2010, a prediction which has pretty much come true.

This article is predicting a similiar thing, however it was written in 2010.

Why do you think your government is trying to ease the diplomatic tensions with China?

Yes. And here is the funny thing.

We have predicted that we would be driving flying cars for around 60 years now.

Sadly. I go to work every day, along with 6 billion other people, on cars that cant fly.

There is this -amazing- thing about predictions.

    Wait for it

They haven't been in the global superpower game long, but they're good at it. Rule #1 is to not pump money into futile wars.
But you're right, living in a bubble is much easier.

All government is corrupt. But some how we managed to survive 200 years like this, I think we can survive 2 more years at the top.

You seem to completely ignore the basis of the economy. The United States Economic strength is based entirely upon the business's in there, not the government.

See. The government gets x amount of money from taxes every year. That money happens to come from trade within our country and other countries. The us can spend 100% of that money on a war in Iraq, and -still- Walmart would make the same exact amount of money.

Learn the different between "Government" and "Economy". Please.

They're not making the same amount though, if the value of the dollar is globally plummeting.

And I'm not being hateful either (I can be unintentionally abrasive) this is the internet, nothing is THAT serious.

The value of the dollar constantly fluctuates. For instance, in 1990, the US Dollar was worth 0.8343, while in 2010 the US Dollar worth was 0.7176. Considering that most international transactions take place in USD, it would seem like they are making the same amount of money in USD.

You also have to consider that each country has its own level of inflation. For instance, while 1 USD might only be worth 0.7176 of a Euro. If it takes 1.43 USD for bread in America, while it takes 2 Euro in Europe for bread, you would be making exactly the same amount of money during trade. Thats extremely simplified though. Economics is just guess work most of the time.

There is actually no safe way to say what currency is better then another currency, because its entirely dependant on where the money is being spent.

Therefore GDP is a much better way of telling how much a country is worth.

While I agree with "They have us by the balls" I also agree with this...China is too invested to allow the US to collapse. They have to make sure the dollar does not drop otherwise they would be screwed...Thus investing and buying and even now creating a new deal of 40B with the US...

For the US to go like Greece or even Portugal would be disastrous for the Chinese, granted they still have money but all of these losses from the dollar would certainly be a big hit to their economy.
