really going by your logic i shouldn't be
instead, why don't you tell me your race and sexual preference so i can toughen you up for the real world
and what you said was...
which is a total contradiction - and then you went on to support how it is good
Also i just noticed the first part of this. I am a Vietnamese, straight male. Say what you want. I don't see you how don't understand how the more shit you hear people say to you, the less it affects you.
okay your wanting to create a positive spin off on prejudice is like saying "the Holocaust was sad, BUT those Jews sure are tough now
"
That's kind of different in the sense that they were taken complete control of. It was prejudice, buts its not like Hitler just sat there yelling slurs at them.

Well you said they call people "dirty mexicans" that's verbal assault....although it's definitely not enough for the cops to get involved; it's could be enough to get rid of them as a school organization...
Our campus is considered a free speech area. So unless they're being physically abusive, telling someone to commit a crime, or committing a crime there's really nothing we can do. Right now we're basically taking the papers, calling all of the advertisers in the paper and letting them know the kind of content that's in the paper because as it turns out a lot of them have no idea what kind of paper they're advertising in, they're just buying ads.
In regards to the thread, may I ask where you attend school Mishelle? I attend a Texas university and we don't have anything like that.. I love my school because of it's diversity. A lot of people there are dumbasses but at least everyone is somewhat tolerant of each other.
I currently attend Cal State University San Marcos. When I began attending the school was 66% White. 3 years later it's a whopping 64% White. We've had issues with race and racism with this school since I got here. My cousin left the school because she was unfairly targeted by a teacher because she was the only Black student in class. I've wanted to leave, I've even applied to a different university but I also feel like if I leave then I'm just pushing back progress. That's why I've decided to stay and get more involved within student government where I actually have a voice and the power to create legislation to incite change. I'm just sick of this juvenile bullshit.

I'm really surprised. California?.. It seems strange that my school would be more open-minded. But it may just be that there are more blacks attending than any other race.. you'd be pretty crazy to say anything or write a paper like that. Our campus is considered a free speech area. That's really great of you to do, most people would leave, but then the bigots would win, right?
I wish hate like this would stop. You'd think in 2011 and in a new generation that things would be different, but no. These kids were raised by racist parents and will continue to pass that down to their offspring.

My school has LOADS of dumbasses.
I'm black for race. My school percent is 47% Black 22% Hispanic 21%White 7% Asian 3% American Indian or Other.
Some of these kids look like the fucking New Orlean Saints football team. Like seriously and they're the ones in the back of the bus with weed in a inhaler smoking it.
I LOL'd in Gym today. Some of these nerds still DO NOT know how to shoot a basketball correctly.
Btw I'm in Highschool.
There is some irony here

So you are attempting to argue that the Westboro Baptist Church screaming "God Hates Fags", "God hates America", and "Your son is going to burn in hell!" at a funeral are not hateful things to say?
Check out page 10 of the opinion written by Justice Stevens in Snyder v. Phelps (2011) (located here. (PDF) (Direct quote for you)
Please provide a more recent supreme court hearing than the decision handed down in Snyder v. Phelps that was issued 8-1 a mere week or two ago that proves to the contrary before you blindly insist that I am "Wrong."
I wrote up this huge analysis, and then realized that its pointless and deleted it.
Regardless of the decision, which is about personal harm, and not hate speech. You think that opinions against other people = hate speech. When hate speech only applies to threats.
Feel free to continue to be exactly what this topic is about. And I will continue to just not care anymore.

"I think black people are dirty" or "Niggers are contaminating our society"
One sentence is an opinion. One is clearly hate speech.
Hate speech does not only apply to threats, although people can feel threatened by it.

Correct, but none of the things said in that court case was hate speech. They were all opinions.

But all the races are represented pretty well here I'd say. The only racists are few and far between, and it's usually the hick dumbass ( who's usually older than the rest of the class) sitting in the back, lol.

California may be a Blue state but there's still tons of conservative racists. San Diego is way more conservative than LA. It was kind of a culture shock when I got here. it's even worse at the bigger universities. At san diego state university they've had incidents where someone hung a noose on a tree, and they had "ghetto parties" where they dressed up as gang members, painted their faces black, and drank 40 ozs. i do agree with you, it's sad that ignorance is still alive and well, especially that it's so prevalent in an institution of higher learning. That's what I really can't get past. These people are supposed to be educated and they're acting like neanderthals for the sake of ~*humor*~

I'm not saying that all hate speech is protected speech. I am saying that some things that may be defined as hate speech are protected speech. If the case was strictly about personal harm, then why did it state that it upheld the first amendment? How are organizations like the KKK allowed to speak publicly and march in public rallies?I wrote up this huge analysis, and then realized that its pointless and deleted it.

That's a great idea! Is it working so far?
I assume these are small business that depend a lot on effective advertisement. If it was me, I'd tell them there are these dick heads that harass people while handing out the paper and unless they stop advertising in there, they could lose a lot of business.

That one joke you provided was hilarious
Do they have a website or some sort of newsletter for me to subscribe to?
EDIT:
No, but really, you're being very racist against whites
Calling them "fucking privileged morons", "mouthbreathers", and "racist, sexist, and homophobic". Just cause they're white and rich you must hate them?
That's pretty damn racist.
And don't hide behind the whole "I'm a minority" card cause I'm not a brainwashed liberal and it won't work.
Now imagine if I wrote this:
I'd probably get called a racist, accused of writing hate speech, and get a warning for "racial hatred" or somesuch.
So there.

They are racist against minorities. They talked about how all Asians women are bitches, How all Black people are theives, how all Black men want to rape White women. How students should disrespect a Ceasar Chavez statue because he only helped Mexicans anyway. They're not racist because the'yre White. They're not mouthbreathers because they're White. They're White racist mouthbreathers because they're fucking idiots who think it's okay to bash minorities students just because they're minorities and it's lolfunny. There's nothing negative about White people in that entire paper. It only targets Blacks, Mexicans, Asians, women (more so minority women) and LGBTQ students. That's not okay and we're calling them out on their shit.

I've read mainstream gay publications that make straight jokes.
I've read articles in Ebony where they interview ONLY BLACK PEOPLE and talk about only white racism.
I've read editorials in Brown Pride where they talk about "overthrowing the white supremacists in DC"
And a whole lot more besides.
Until you minorities fix your own affairs and stop hating on straight people, conservatives, christians, and whites, stay out of our business.
Jesus said: "You hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of your own eye; and then shall you see clearly to cast out the mote out of your brother's eye."

The correct answer is yes
Promoting hatred is bad all around, it doesn't matter if it's against minorities or against whites.

Because I'm not a pussy who gets offended at every little thing that could possibly cause offence maybe?
Regarding this, you say you want to take this newspaper down... why exactly?
Because they're offending you?
Oh no, how horrible, let's ban them and have them expelled! Despite that university being a goddam free speech area
Obviously it can't be the legal side of it since you so callously disregarded the law in reading other peoples' mail
For fucks sake, what's your problem?

What exactly are you against, I'd like to know? The free speech (protected by US law)?
Or just that they're showing your chosen group in a negative light?
Cause, you know, Affirmative action is prejudice too, outright prejudice. Yet I don't see you arguing against it, odd...
I like the cut of your jib.

i do agree with this
but honestly the only people making race and issue are the people who talk about race as a motivating factor
race isn't even a tangible thing
however, i do think that instigation of crimes due to hate speech/prejudice writings should be avoided
promoting inclusion rather than highlighting it as an attack on minorities would be a more appropriate way to approach it
but as said above, prejudice is a two way street
and neither is acceptable
