So I checked my grades this afternoon and realized that I just got an A in a class (a 2nd year university course, "Ancient Comedy") that I was expecting a b+ or a- in.... I guess the prof. REALLY liked my final paper :whistling:

Another class I was taking, a 4th year course called "Humour and Humiliation in the 18th Century" was a bit less successful... I can clearly write at a very high level, but obviously I stayed home playing neo WAY too often...

    Judging by your courses, I suspect you are trying to get a degree in the liberal arts. This instantly removes you from the "smarter than me" category.

    Edit: 81/100 where I live is a C+.

    81/100 is an A- where I live. Then again no one uses letter grading anymore :/

    Technically that is what it means, but I think he meant no one get's that low of a score where he is.

    75% is considered an A here, there's no A+ or A- system. But there's only one university in the country, and the students here are really just waiting around to get married, so they don't study. I've maintained over 90% for my courses anyway, because universities abroad will probably convert my grades to theirs, and I definitely want to continue on to my Masters.

    Yeah...

    The grading here is

    100-90 = A
    89-80 = B
    79-70 = C
    69-60 = D
    59-0 = F

    The first four are considered "passing" were as the first two are "honors" which means that ab is for smart people, c and d is for normal people, and f is for people who need to stay back a grade.

    Well, at my university an A- is an 89-94 while an A is a 95-100.

    81 would be a C+.

    We have an odd scale... the Grad schools I'm looking at (basially for writing, and "liberal arts") are NYU and UofT (Toronto), which both ask for about an "8.5" average (or B+, sort of) which breaks down our grades as follows:

    90-100% = A+ = 12 points
    85-90% = A = 11 points
    80-84% = A- = 10 points
    70-79% = B-/B/B+ = 7,8,9 points
    60-69% = C-/C/C+ = 4,5,6 points
    50-59% = D-/D/D+ = 1,2,3 points
    Failure = 0 points.

    So like, as far as getting a BA is concerned it is REALLY simple to barely pass everything and get full credit.... I really think the schools encourage this so that they can stay in the business of churning out a bunch of useless BA students with no employment prospects. The sciences and math are a bit more competetive.

    Your guys' universities are on fucking crack dude

    A+ = 97-100
    A = 93-96
    A- = 89-92

    B+ = 86-88
    B = 83-85
    B-= 79-82

    C+ = 76-78
    C = 73-75
    C- = Fail

    etcetera.
    F= Anything below a C
    C- = F
    D = F
    D- = F
    F =F

    For engineering courses here, they're marked on a curve, so only class placement really makes a difference. For artsy courses, it really depends on the course here. Usually in the course syllabus the professor makes it clear. :p

    Where I am no school gives/accepts letter grades unless you're like in kindergarten so I never bothered knowing my letter to number conversions

    UofT asks for a minimum of 75% average for arts and about an 85% average for a lot of the other programs. Then again UofT accepts practically everyone at first....Never heard of an 8.5 average before.....

    It split here. Where:
    95-100 = A+
    90-94 = A
    85-89 = B+
    80-84 = B
    75-79 = C+
    71-74 = C
    60-70 = D+
    50-59 = D
    0-49 = F

    The harder the course, the more leninet they are i.e. in biochemistry and organic chemistry, 90-100 = A+, and 80-89 = A and the rest continues. most arts, education, business etc. classes follow the above, but sciences usually are marked on a slight curve or the one in this paragraph. That's because in my biochemistry class, of 400 people 5, FIVE people got an A+ (no i didn't get an A+ >_<)

    I can't believe you fuckers in canada can make a 50% and pass! That's completely obscene! My university level has been on the same scale iargue posted above... but basically a C is considered total shit and a D will only count if it is basically completely irrelevant to your major.

    Before University level, Our grading system was always:

    A = 90-100
    B = 80-89
    C = 75-79
    D = 70-74
    F = Failed that shit. <70

    Did it not vary depending on the degree? I mean a C+ in an engineering course can be considered "good" but the same mark in an english literature course may not...

    English system is different but pretty much standardised across universities.
    70+: 1st
    60 - 70: 2:1
    50 - 60: 2:2
    40 - 50: Pass
    <40: Fail

    Our marking seems to be a lot harsher than yours though, it's effectively impossible to get in the 90s with any sort of subjective subject (remembering we don't major, we only study the one, occasionally two subjects across our entire three/fours years). I have friends who did Maths who all ended up with ridiculous results in the 90s because they were very good at it. Then I have another friend who studied English Literature, had 2 pieces published in academic journals while an undergrad but graduated with an overall mark of 74 and was still top of her year.

    The highest I know of anyone getting in written work in my department is 75. Performance I know of up to 86 but in 4 years, we've only had a few 80s.

    The standard that most people aim for is a 2:1, that's what is expected by the better graduate employers. Very rare that anyone will expect a 1st of you, unless you want to be a top barrister or something.

    Grading system-
    90-100= A+
    85-90-A
    80-85-B+
    75-80-B
    70-75-C+
    65-70-C
    60-65-D+
    55-60-D
    Anything below 50 is a fail O_o

    Then again, I'm only in high school sooo x]

    I wish my profs even published the cut-offs for our grades. Since everything at my college is graded on a curve, I don't even know what final grade I am going to get until it comes out.
