I think a long time ago we had a system to select which posts appeared in "view new posts."

This feature already exists. Been around for ages really.

See. We call it a mouse. Now.. you move it to the section you want to view, and then click. So if you don't want to view the trading post... you don't click.

I don't view anyones trading thread yet it still bothers me.
Some people like me just don't want to read "Selling Derp for other" after they click 'View Active Content'.
They just like to read the good threads that you can actually reply to and have a sensible conversation.
Sure this feature already exists, it's been around since anyone could see, and it's called an eyeball.
Now... you move your eyeballs to the section you want to view, so if you don't want to view the trading post section close them.

In all seriousness, it would just be nice if we could just ignore a certain section in the forum.

Anyways; if we get around to developing the new codex this was a feature that would be implemented. Subscribing only to the areas of the site that you had intended on using.

Touche, they are who feed the fire of annoyance and indeed I have used the trading post section; however, not often.
The point that I'm getting at is that it would be nice to have a little button that says
Ignore topics:
[ ] General Chat
[ ] AoB Sub Forum
[X] Trading Post
This way you could choose when you want to view the section desired and when not to.
I'm not deliberately asking the programmers/administration to make this function available considering the amount of work it would take versus the majority of people who care.
I'm just saying that it would be the cherry on top of a cake when browsing the forum.
