Okay... a bit random, but say there's suddenly a war going on, or more likely an insane gang fight, and you needed a bulletproof vest. What would you do?

As in, you need to MAKE something bulletproof within 30 minutes.

I meant like where you are right now... so... unless you have a bullet proof vest within 1 mile of you... I kinda more of meant like improve bulletproof stuffs.

Maybe a idiot of an idea... but I was thinking of filling ziploc bags with sand and taping them into a duct tape vest...

That has no tensile strength, won't work. Stuff like Kevlar is woven so that the force is evenly spread over a large area.

Right... but something akin to strapping sandbags to your body... supposedly, 6 inches of sand will stop a bullet... read it on box o truth.

"Supposedly" why don't you try walking around with a suit made or sand bags, Kevlar alone is heavy enough...

well better to try and move around in a suit made of sand bags than to get shot..

Except if you're stuck in a suit made of sand bags, you're probably going slow enough that you'll get shot anyway.

Ok, well i'm gonna take a wild guess and say that you're not buff enough to sprint while wearing bags of sand on your torso, anyone can then just walk up to you and shoot you in the head or whatever body part you have that's not protected

I wear a bullet proof vest for my job so it wouldn't be too hard to get hold of one.

If you only cover the torso... that's like.. 1600 cubic inches of sand...

hence the impracticality of a sandbag vest

the vest probbly wouldnt help much since random fires are going on. u would probably get shot somewhr in the unprotected areas.

Yeah dude... bags of sand is a really, really dumb idea. Just buy a kevlar suit if you are worried about it. Besides, do you really have access to that much sand just laying around that you could bag up and strap to you in a time of emergency? I doubt it. :p

Your best bet in general for this situation would be to duct tape several layers of dense metal to use as a riot shield, and then quiver behind it during the fight.

Didnt mythbusters use crushed up soda cans to make a vest once.

Its funny how everyone missed the point of this topic.

Saying, if you were about to engage in a gunfight, and you didn't have a vest. What would do to protect yourself?

Also. Bullet Proof vests are not even 100% :p

is this something that you have to wear or something to simply hide behind until this "gang fight" is over?
