Trading Post Scamming and everything

The trading post is a good way to bring new members in. Just look at the people in this thread who are rather new but have made trades. It at least boosts activity a bit.
Middlemen keep things safe enough.
With all of the current turmoil in the ranking system, this is the last thing we should worry about.

Some kind of trades can't be made with a middleman... (buying services/trading with other, etc.)
Well then its probably and avatar service or some kind of lend.
Have everything on your account pinned, have no trades, have no money out.
Have your payment sent a middleman and the middleman keeps the money until the service is done.
I think we need more middlemen/women. Often people want one but they arent on.
And in the end, they just do the trade w/o a MM.
I think the best course of action here would just to be readjust the official MM
And way to single me out, DonaldMax. And I did NOT just join yesterday for your information.

LOL!
Quite surprised on how far this thread has gotten. I posted this last night and went to sleep. We shall see what the admins have to say.

Wow actually changing your name for a joke xD
I actually don't think that there should be too much of a requirement to use the trading post; in all honesty, it's always the same type of people who are getting scammed and scamming. Active forumers, regardless of the forum (Whether HB, DZ, MP etc) will know not to trade with certain people. We offer a middleman service (as iargue stated) and we all suggest people use it. Regardless if we increase the requirements needed to trade, there will still be scamming by the same time of people. Because as people said, if one posts 5 times a day, they'd get 100 in less than three weeks. And if those are "high" requirements, people don't use middlemen, people get scammed off $100 or something.
As harsh as it sounds, maybe it takes getting scammed to get people to realize that they should use middlemen.
Also final note: we need more middlemen:
Official middlmen:
Jcrboy
Iargue
Georgina
Soul__stealer
Chopped
Boggart
Xwee
tak1968
without123
neobrah
Of which 4 are currently MIA, 1 I haven't seen in forever, 1 who hasn't middlemanned yet, 1 who drifts in and out, and me who has been busy basically all summer.
That leaves argue and soul as active middlemen... we need more.

middleman thread got un-stickied?
naw, it's just sub-headed (or w/e) in the first (and only) sticky in the trading section

People who have been around for a while, who have a decently high post count, and who have been active consistently for the last few months.
We could also have people recommend someone that they've traded with that they would trust to be a middleman/woman. I know its hard to always be active on the forum, so just adding a few more people for now should help handle to problem a little better.

Why dont we just have another round of applications for middlemen/women?

It's more just PM'ing iargue that you're interested and people will vote you in if you're trustworthy; it's rather informal. I applied and got in like 2 hours later.

Lack of official middlemen is a bit of a problem. Last time I traded and looked to the bottom for active users, I couldn't pick out someone to be a middleman
in all fairness, I'm almost always "anonymous user" as are many of us middlemen, so sometimes just make it a status :3

We should still have some way of protecting new (honest) users though...

If the new user is honest, there should be no problem using a middleman.

Not if they're misinformed or unaware.

In which case there really isn't anything more we can do, is there?
And if they're new and trustworthy, we can assume they've traded before and know what a middleman is. We're more-so talking about avoiding scamming and helping people who've never traded before, which a middleman would aid in both.

I was more talking about educating new traders about a middleman. I learned from reading the threads, but now it's in the "Compiled Sticky Thread...," which I understand the need to have a more organized forum, but it makes it trickier to access for new members.
I just don't think we should handle it as liberally as "it takes getting scammed to get people to realize that they should use middlemen." Who would feel comfortable in an environment that they've already been scammed in? How would scammed new members make other members feel, both new and old?

I understand completely; however I remember a time when iargue literally posted "make sure to trade using a middleman!" on every single trading thread.
People still got scammed. In fact it was probably worse than it is right now. Especially with the priorities shuffling around, this will probably be put on the backburner for a while

I say fuck it. If someone isn't smart enough to wait for a middleman, they deserve to be scammed. We have rules set in place for a reason. Those who feel the need to break them or bend them or whatever you want to call it deserve to get scammed.
Use a middleman. If one isn't on, wait for one to get on. If you choose to ignore the rules and you get scammed, don't bitch about it. Easy as that.

agreed too. Whats to stop a potential scammer coming along, paying a months membership, then scam someone out of an item/np etc thats worth a lot more than the months membership cost.
However, there still will always be scammers that aren't deterred by the post req and if implemented, people still need to have constant vigilance and caution.
It's not possible to stop all scamming. The purpose of my proposal is to have some limitation so someone can't register a new account and scam immediately as what has been happening lately. Even a 1 week waiting period and a 25 post requirement would increase the turnaround from 2 minutes, the time it takes to register, to 1 week - a massive improvement. I think 25 posts is an incredibly generous offer that only restrict a small percentage of current users.
Ok so do it.I would rather honestly make using a Middleman a requirement, rather then an option.
Especially with the priorities shuffling around, this will probably be put on the backburner for a while
Every member of staff is fully aware of the situation and my suggestion. They plainly said they just don't want to do it.

Common sense will do a better job then any requirement we can ever place on the Trading Post....
