Who inspires you to be the best you can be? Who is your role model?

I personally see my parents as a great inspiration for the kind of parent I should be.
For anything else, I would say the five people who inspire me most are Donald Trump, Richard Branson, Lord Robert Baden Powell, Walt Disney, and Jack LaLanne. Each for their own reasons obviously ^_^

Discuss who inspires you and if you remember this bolded tactic or not.

It's sooo cliche to say your parents, but my dad is legitimately my biggest role model. I want to be as competent and as awesome a person as he is.

Aung San Suu Kyi is also one of the most impressive people ever. So much respect for that woman.

I agree about the parents thing, which is why I added the real real models after :p

But seriously... no one inspires me. Well I don't aspire to be like anyone. It's more so the opposite; I see so many people who are inadequate so I strive not to be like them *cough*

My Spanish teacher at junior high was an incredible woman: tremendously cultured and classy. My math teacher at the high school was also the most intelligent man I have ever met... and a liberal guy despite being like 60 something years old. You don't expect an elderly person to be that liberal, lol.

But going to greater scales, Oscar Wilde, Carlos Fuentes, Horacio Quiroga, Edgar Allan Poe and Sir Christian Andersen are my writer-models.
Agustín Barrios Mangoré, Johan Sebastian Bach and Andrew York are classical musicians I really, really admire.
And as for philosophy, Soren Kierkegaard, Baruch Spinoza and Jean Paul Sartré are the people I'll follow.

Nah, my grandfather actually. He's the most intelligent, cultured person I know by far, and fluent in like 6 languages. He's a retired air force general and now that he's 86 he spends 1/3 of his time running/skiing/swimming, 1/3 devouring books, and the other 1/3 he spends with his pretty wife who's like 30 years younger than him. xD Also, he can cook a badass cheesecake.

As for parents, my dad is the last person I want to be like. He's very successful, but also a complete asshole. My mom's cool but she's not as epic as gramps.

Fair play to Gallagher, but Doherty is a grade A cunt. Drug addict, numerous brush ins with the law, injected a passed out girl with heroin.

I seriously fail to see how he can be a role model.

Obviously the drugs side isnt inspirational but more the music he has made. But he proves that fuck ups can actually do something productive with their lives for example art, music and poetry. However i do believe that he should have done his full sentence in jail, but then again he could be going back in soon enough :p

I'd have to say my biggest role models have been a few school and college teachers of mine. My parents not so much.. not that they aren't great but.. they don't do much..

My teachers all throughout school have been my motivators. My 10th grade Science teacher was probably my absolute favorite, I still talk to her to this day. She's not just one of those teachers that try to give you life advice but are really giving advice to themselves.. anyone else know what I'm talking about? lol. No, she actually gave me helpful advice and was pretty much my friend at a time in my life when I didn't have any. I can't thank her enough for that. :)

    Mostly writers.

I'm an avid reader and I've read enough pulp to know the difference between escapist garbage and literature. Orson Scott Card influenced me from a young age because of the seriousness with which he approached writing books for teens. Also, the sheer volume of work he put out astounded me. I didn't think it was possible to put out books that frequently without turning into K. A. Applegate or Stephen King. Sure, King hits the mark one in 10 books, but that's a lot of sifting to do when I just want to read a good book.

I'm reading a book right now by Sebastian Mallaby called More Money than God, which is about hedge fund managers (more generally the history of hedge funds) which is deeply inspiring. This one guy, Bruce Kovner, borrowed 3,000 USD against a MasterCard (that's an interest charging credit card) and turned it into 22,000 USD minus repayment of the primary! The whole book is full of these kind of stories, guys who read the market and got in while the getting was good. It's a fascinating read.

My speech professor from my first semester in college. Easily the smartest man I've ever known that could communicate on a decent level. I'm actually considering changing my major to communications because of him. He was an extremely honest and nice person. Looked a bit too much like Gene Simmons though.
