I'm looking to buy a laptop and have no idea where to start; The price range I'm looking for is anywhere from 250-450$ which is pretty measly :/ I'm trying to buy a used one online (ebay? I've heard mixed reviews, but I think I should be fine) and hopefully get a nice discount. Although it would be used, I'd want to be factory refurbished and in new condition.

Webcam isn't needed, neither is a microphone, as I can buy better ones separately, but if they come with, that's fine. I just need it to run smoothly. I'll mainly be using this for Neopets and schoolwork, so I don't need a gaming laptop either:) Nothing like that :p

For screen size, preferably 15 in - 17 in, but nothing under 14 in
My biggest concern is the portability; I don't want anything too clunky; definitely not a brick. So Lightweight is a plus.

Sooooo, thanks for reading :p Anything helps, from personal experience, research, etc... post an Ebay link or something:)

Thanks:)

You should be able to get a decent new laptop for that price, I wouldn't bother with a pre-owned one.

What waser said. If you check the store ads for black friday there are usually some pretty sweet laptop deals. You may need to camp out but it's worth it. My brother got a brand new laptop last year for $200 (+tax)!

Yeah, you might not be able to get a new quad core but you'd probably be able to get a good Core 2 Duo with 4GB memory and 500GB+ hard drive, especially if there's sales coming up too.

Just having a quick look on Best Buy (I have no idea where to buy laptops in America), it looks like you could even get an i5 at the top end of your budget:

You can also get i3s:

I wouldn't really recommend buying a used laptop unless it's from a person you know or something :x

Specific laptops though.. er.. cX
/randomly searches laptops/
"HP - Pavilion Laptop / AMD A-Series Processor / 14" Display / 4GB Memory / 320GB Hard Drive - Pewter" seems to have good reviews (for the price range)? cx

/I'm bad at this stuff though, so don't rely on my post X3/

Stores that have usually have some sort of Laptop sales: best buy, office depot, office max.

My brother picked up an HP and its not super fancy but it seems like it would do everything you're asking for it to do. Sorry I can't be more specific, I'm pretty computer illiterate.

Besides to 2G Memory difference, and processor, I see no major difference; The price is 200$ cheaper, and there's an option to send the laptop back within 30 Days. In the description is reads that it's new and unopened so... I still feel that more money is saved through buying it through others

:o And thanks everyone that has replied :)

Perhaps it's different in America but over here when you buy a new laptop you usually get a warranty which lasts at least 1 year from purchase so I prefer to pay a bit more for a new one which is guaranteed for a year than one which is guaranteed for a month from somebody on ebay. It's all down to personal preference though. :p

If you're not in a hurry I'd wait until the Black Friday sales, you might find a real bargain. ;) It's only a couple of months so there's not too long to wait.

I'm in the US too, haha

Yea, I'm in no hurry, so I'll keep a look out for the Black Friday Sales in the mail and hopefully find a good deal :p I guess I'm good on advice for now then, Thanks all :)

Id go to gizmodo.com and keep an eye on the deals they find. The only one they have right now in your price range is:

15.6" Dell Inspiron M501R Phenom II X3 N850 2.2GHz 4GB DDR3 500GB HDD (REFURBISHED) for $415 with free shipping (normally $800 {Savings of $385 / 48% off})

and thats at this site: http://www.laptopaho...gb-laptop-.html

Well whatever you do, say 'No' to Sony. Bitches wouldn't fix my poor cracked LCD even though my lap top was four months old and under warranty. I won't forget this, Sony. You jerk

EDIT- Plus they're overpriced like no other. D:
