I don't care... my point is that calling someone a troll in a discussion as a way of avoiding their arguments is utterly without merit.

But that applies to pretty much any word, not just troll.

It is completely pointless to say it at all in a conversation. Anyone that admits to being a troll, is not a troll (Expect if they do it in private to a small group of people. aka, friends). Trolls are determined by other people who are watching/participating. At a certain point, you realize that this person is just arguing for the sake of arguing, and label them as such, and move on, or you realize they are the most retarded person alive, and sign the petition to make abortions legal in hopes of preventing any future offspring of his.

If a person states "Stop trolling me" they most likely are retarded and do not know what trolling means. If someone states "Haha, I trolled you" they are retarded and are trying to escape from the hole they dug. A troll will accept that you think hes retarded, and you dug him into a hole, because that was his objective from the start. He won't defend himself by claiming to be a troll, because deep down, he is happy knowing that you believe everything he said.

Didn't you start interchanging your and you're purposely many years ago, and still do today, to "troll" Sweeney? That is dedication.

    A fair point.

Not everyone recognises that, though. Some people think an accusation of trolling is a perfectly reasonable response to a disagreement.

I felt like typing a lot. People need to be more educated on what trolling is, rather then claiming everything under the sun is a troll (I always wince when people claim maha was a troll)

Obviously the answer is to stop letting idiots and 15 year olds on the internet.

You know who's a great troll? Fucking Herman Cain, that's who

I really enjoy a good troll. What I don't enjoy is the idiotic and immature crap that is going on all over the place where people are making up the most obviously wrong answer to a question and pretending to be serious because they think it makes them clever.

    Like this exchange for example:

    Fireworks Today, 11:02 AM
I don't mind the free stuff from the bugs though xD
    Arkidas Today, 11:36 AM
    what bugs? O_o
    themaskedmongoose Today, 11:42 AM
Lil purple bugs you randomly see anywhere on the Games page, once you see one: pick up your computer, raise it up, smash it for a nice item and a "surprise".

That isn't funny, clever or trolling. It's just stupid

Edit: yeah I edited it a couple times

Does anyone know who I should contact about my advanced not going through?

    Sweeney (Today, 04:19 PM)
One of the administrators is a good bet. The people in charge.

    iargue (Today, 05:03 PM)
I don't think the administrators would help. I say message people that have the rank of member. Usually they know how to fix everything, they fixed my program manager for me.

I think it's kind of pathetic that people call troll just because someone disagrees with them.

I got accused of trolling on a facebook page because I didn't bow down to the idea that Obama is God. Now I'm not going to get into politics because I'll be the first to admit that I'm pretty politically illiterate, but I don't like Obama.
It's kind of sad that a supposedly unbiased group goes around banning people and calling them trolls just because a question they asked doesn't agree with their bias.

Haha that's not supposed to sound snarky. I was just a little iffed at the immaturity of some people. They can't have an intelligent discussion because the minute someone even seems to disagree, they're called troll and ridiculed and ignored. -_-

If you're politically illiterate, then your dislike for Obama must come from an undisclosed personal level and you have no business sharing your uninformed opinion in places where people are having a real and intelligent conversation about politics. I'm sorry you felt iffed, and that nobody took your politically illiterate opinion to heart, but in all fairness, you were the one being immature, and they had every right to unlike you, or whatever it is they do on facebook.

Having said that, I think trolling is something that is done on purpose. They labeled you a troll because they found your politically illiterate opinions so laughable and so wrong and misguided that they assumed you were just making shit up.

There's a difference between pretty politically illiterate and completely fucking stupid -_-
As it is, I was just asking a question. I think it was something along the lines of "didn't the democrats have control of congress back in the first half of Obama's term."
The only thing I meant by that is that the republicans weren't in control the way they were talking.

Let's put it this way. I can read, but I can't write. I know enough to know basically what's going on, but I can't really talk about it very well. But I know enough to not be thought of as a complete idiot when I'm talking to someone who is willing to talk, not just ignore someone who doesn't agree with them.

Eh but the point of that post wasn't the political stuff. The point was that just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't make them a troll.

Then you weren't really giving your opinion. You were regurgitating facts.
    That is not an opinion.
Giving a summery about a novel you read is not the same as sharing any conclusions you made regarding the use of figurative language.

I'm not going to argue with you. This isn't about politics, it's about trolling.

I think one of the best trolls I have seen is someone saying that murder should be legalized. It was a 3 paragraph rant about how the only reason murder is illegal is because the Bible says it's wrong, and it should be legal because whatever. That one just left me shaking my head.

Punk was making the point that you were not labelled a troll because of your position of dissent, but because of your posing of an apparently innocent question with no reasoning or explanation. You'll also note that she didn't even have that detail when she posted, working only from your description of yourself as "politically illiterate".

You're right not to engage with Ivysaur, though. He's several bricks short of a low wall.

I'd be more willing to agree with you if I hadn't seen posts of other people that disagreed who got deleted and called out as a troll. Granted, I probably could have said something more along the lines of "according to blah blah blah, this is true" or something.

Before I say this, I'm not shifting the blame to other people. I hate it when people do that. But part of the reason I'm so... out of it with politics is because of the massive chasm between the two parties. There've been times that I've asked questions (that are in no way leading questions) and instead of answers, I'll get an all out flame war. Against the other political party. Or other candidate or whatever. That's a little off-putting. Although for my part, I don't really want to have to be involved in politics. I mean I do for the sake of wanting to know what's going on, but it's just that the entire political sphere is so corrupt. As a new voter (I just turned 19, so this is my first real election process), it feels a bit like jumping into the Ocean during a hurricane.

I think most of my problem is that I'm not very good at being articulate. I think things that sound awesome in my head, but there's kind of a disconnect between my brain and the paper. Or in this case, the keypad. But also, I have a terrible habit of just expecting someone to know what I'm thinking, or what I mean. Which is not a good thing in general. But online, it's even worse because they're just words. There's no context.

As much as I'd love to continue talking about myself (lol), I don't want to derail this thread. So I'm just going to leave it at this.
