I'm quite liking a review I read today of the episode which said:

A wedding is to Game of Thrones as the appointment of a new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher is to Harry Potter

 

I almost wish I hadn't read the books. The series is done so well (and in my opinion, the books do start to drift a bit as they go on) that I think I'd prefer not knowing when huge game-changing events are about to happen!

I know that I’ll wake up tomorrow to social networks choked with headlines like “Twitter’s best reactions to Joffrey’s death” and “Joffrey’s death in 7 GIFs” and “Which viscous substance pouring out of Joffrey’s face are you? (POLL).” But I deeply, sincerely wish that I wouldn’t, because that’s giving in to the basest, least human elements of a very good piece of television. “The Lion And The Rose” isn’t good TV because it’s “The One Where Joffrey Finally Gets What’s Coming To Him, That Little Prick.” It’s good TV because the episode builds to that moment, with tiny choices made by Tyrion and Joffrey finally hitting the fan when the boy king hits the floor.

Heh that's a good one too! I really want to read the books, I started book 1 but only got about a third of the way through it.

By the end of the most recent one I was skipping entire chapters. The problem with constantly killing off characters, is you have to introduce new ones, and when that happens 4 books in you're already so heavily invested in what's happening elsewhere it becomes hard to start from scratch! With the POV system, I just didn't bother with entire storylines in the later books. So eventually events will start shocking me in the series!

 

In other news, crying shame that Jack Gleeson is quitting acting after GOT. He's so delightfully hateable whilst still having a strangely childlike vulnerability to him.

 

And Sansa and Tyrion's marriage is sweeter every week. Bless the pair of them.

Same, the knowing who is going to die and how, makes the show much less interesting.

Characters one becomes invested in being killed off is actually part of the appeal of the saga(at least to me), that's one of the main reasons I don't like:

I have no objections to them being killed off, it's when there's a need to fill that space with a new POV. Could never take to Davos as a POV character for instance.

Yeah, I just meant how it's been handled in the series, I think Peter Dinklage and Sophie Turner have portrayed it splendidly. Some really touching moments with Tyrion trying his hardest to respect her, and Sansa struggling with being married to a Lannister and the Imp no less. I thought this week had some particularly lovely but incredibly subtle moments at the wedding, him reaching for her hand, her getting the cup for him.
