I still have same cramping problems in my legs with trivora though. Like my muscles are pulling in my upper thighs or I'm having muscle spasms. You feel like if you stretch then it'll feel better but it doesn't help. It sucks... but that was happening before I started taking it so I have no idea.

Isn't there a male contraceptive pill in the works? Vag-e-something. Dunno, I don't have to worry about little sprogs fortunately.
If not, rely on condoms and good intentions.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

well considering I'm not having sex atm, I think I could.. I was just implying that I don't have the patience to figure out my body and would rather take something that guarantees I wont get preggo when I do end up having sex again.
edit: AND I really don't want to have a period anymore, so I know birth control can help with that, and I'm not ready to get my girlybits mangled and not be able to have kids in the future.
I have taken several different birth control pills over the past 16 or so years. The only one that effectively stopped me from getting pregnant was Yaz. I have gotten pregnant four times on four different pills - Ortho Tri Cyclen, Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo, LoOvral and Loestrin (taking them daily like I was supposed to), but never on Yaz. Loestrin I was actually on after giving birth to my oldest daughter, and I was breastfeeding and STILL got pregnant. The only side effects I got were some nausea after taking the pill for a few minutes, but I took them at bedtime so it didn't really bother me. I didn't have weight gain or anything like that. I know pills work differently for everyone but for me I never trusted pills for obvious reasons and was really glad to try a different option, which brings me tooooooo...
After my second baby I had a Mirena put in. It was heavenly, no periods, no worries...but I don't know if I would suggest an IUD for someone whose cervix hasn't been abused as much as mine has. I took a pregnancy test every couple months just to make sure I wasn't unknowingly pregnant.
I had had it for about five years, so I decided to get it taken out and go off of hormonal BC. Right now we just use condoms and it works great. Makes cleanup easier too.
From what I've read about the Paragard, it works by irritating the uterus to the point where an embryo couldn't implant. I don't know how comfortable I am with that. I like that it's non-hormonal though.
tl;dr I'm more fertile than anyone I've ever met, but Yaz worked for me. IUD's are cool, but I am wary of the Paragard. Also, condoms.

As others have said, Lo Estrin is pretty good as far as side effects go. Sometimes insurances don't like paying for it, but just hassle them and they will. You can consider IUD since you aren't planning on having kids for a long time, but for some reason, they just sketch me out. I know they shouldn't, but they do. The copper ones can increase your bleeding as well (I can't remember if that was an issue for you or someone else). My wife had a terrible time on Depo, which seems to be the case for 50% of people who have tried it, whereas the other 50% love it. We used the pill for a while, now we use condoms/rhythm/withdrawal depending on what time of the month it is, if condoms are conveniently nearby etc. Works out well, but as a non-married person (idk if you are or not) I would understand the need to not place that kind of trust on just any idiot.

This doesn't have much to do with being a girl, but I have a weird like... swollen vein behind my ear. I don't really know how to explain where it is, but it's blue-ish and hot and it hurts to touch. what is this?
This is the best way I know how to explain it:
It's in that like little crevice between the first bird and the back of the ear.

@Emily are you sure it isn't a cyst?
I don't know. I just started tonight. I mean, my roommate has strep so I could be getting whatever she has but it's just so out of the ordinary. I've never had this before lol
If I get sick, my roommate better hide. Mark my words! When I get sick, my body goes all out. Last time I got sick my doctor had to give me a steroid shot, steroid pills, antibiotics, an inhaler, and cough syrup with codeine. I can't handle sickness.

I outright refuse to use any sort of contraception where I can't control it stopping today if I want. Too many friends with horror stories with everything apart from the pill.

I've recently stopped taking birth control, so it's been pretty wild. I've only ever used pills, though, because my main concern was the horrible menstrual pain. The least helpful was the Seasonique (three months of no period). There was tons of random spotting and my periods were usual...

Ha, at first I was thinking "that is a tattoo." It could be a number of things. It is a bit obscured by the bird, but it could be a lymph node, like punkrockbigmouth said. It could be a cyst (less likely, buy possible, especially if it has been there for a long time). How long have you noticed it? It could also be a pimple of some sort.
Oh, just saw you said you just got it today, and that your roommate is sick. It is very likely a lymph node in that case. They tend to swell up when your body is fighting an infection. Might not hurt to take some zinc, lysine, vitamin c etc. And be ready to get some amox if you are feeling sick in the next few days. Strep can be stupid contagious.

Looks like a swollen lymph node or something. I get things like that around my ears sometimes when I'm stressed or I've got a bleeding wound. It'll go away in time.

Yeah, my mom said it could be a lymph node too.
Also, seasonique was shit for me too.

That's not me
That's just a random picture I used to show where it is.
Yeah, I'm starting to feel sick. Bleh. Definitely could be because I'm getting sick.

Yeah, my throat is starting to feel sore. Darn you, roommate! At least it's the weekend so I can recover a bit.

Like someone said, it could be a Sebaceous cyst (ear pic on the Wiki page is kind of NSFW.. never had one that extreme, thank god o.o). I used to get these about once a year when I was a bit younger (from 18 until about 23). They're quite painful. I figured it was likely due to stress and/or diet, being in university and all. I don't seem to get them anymore.
Putting a hot compress on it regularly, no other touching/squeezing, and about two weeks causes them to er, "mature" enough to be drained or otherwise disappear. Also got one beside my nose, which I got lanced by a doctor.
It may also be swollen lymph nodes as well, and that can happen when your body has an immune response to something (infection, getting sick, etc.).

If your roommate has strep, I would get a rx though. You will be happy you did. Or you can take some of hers now and give her a couple extra when you fill yours, but don't tell your md I recommended that...

Well, I have a bunch of antibiotics. I keep them handy because I have weak-ish immune system. When I get sick it can escalate quickly. I have a bit of a fever though. Bleh, this sucks.

That's not very good.
You should only take antibiotics if prescribed by a doctor after he sees your symptoms. As waser said, antibiotics aren't going to do anything if it's a viral infection.
Do you keep full courses on hand/do you take a full course when prescribed to you?

This is terrible advice. I don't think it's wise to dole out medical advice (especially as a student)...

She says her roommate has strept throat. Amox is the go to for strep. If your roommate has strep, and you start feeling sick, most doctors won't make you come in for an appt, because it is 99% likely that you have strep as well. Strep is NOT a virus and it is sound advice. I dealt with people who had strep on a daily basis for over a year.

The key point is that she hasn't actually been diagnosed properly, she's effectively guessing at what's making her ill and you shouldn't be taking antibiotics without knowing that you'll actually benefit from them (if anything, if she does have virus then antibiotics could make it worse rather than better). You should know that better than anybody unless you're going to be a doctor who actively encourages self-diagnosis...

Unless I read incorrectly, her roommate has been diagnosed correctly. If you go to a Doctor's office and you are diagnosed with strep, they will ask you if anyone else in your household has similar symptoms and write a prescription for those people as well. Strep is that contagious. Doctors use Occam's Razor. It is much more likely both are infected with strep, rather than both having similar symptoms while one has a viral infection and the other a bacterial. Even if you have a negative strep test, doctors will often write amox.
EDIT: I don't encourage self diagnosis. But I feel like when someone you live with has strep, and you have a sore throat, it is strep until proven otherwise. But for nearly any other sickness, listen to Waser, it isn't a super good idea to just take abx w/o consulting (even at least calling the office) a doctor first. And do take the whole 5-10 days (whatever is rxed).

Not only that, but where has Em magically saved these antibiotics from? It is sooooo important (as with any medication) that you finish the full course.
And to add insult to injury, none of us know anything about her medical history and any other contributing factors...

Let's make this completely clear: You have given some of the worst advice a physician possibly could. You just told someone to take somebody elses meds for fucks sake!

I hope you don't pass because you're already endangering people!
What would your med school say if somebody emailed them letting them know not only are you "recommending" meds, but you're also encouraging someone to use a script that isn't theirs! Way to kickstart that career. ![]()

She didn't actually say whether or not her roommate had definitely been diagnosed with it so with strep often being a go-to assumption that people make with those symptoms it's probably not the best idea to just guess and resort to powerful antibiotics without being sure.
Thinking like that over the last few decades is how we've got in the situation we have now regarding antibiotics becoming less effective.
