That is something that does play an important role. Our generation grew up with Bill Nye, while newer generations are not. If you can even define that gap (6-10) years, as a generation.
I agree. I don't know if you can define it as a generation, but regardless Bill Nye won't suddenly become popular again down the road.
With the world's unhealthy infatuation with the Beatles, I assume that people will be influenced by Lennon for some time even if they don't know that's his name.

John Lennon changed musical paradigms (according to the changing culture during his generation) and artists since then have inherited John Lennon's forms. Bill Nye the Science Guy only serves as nostalgia for a few geeky 90's kids. Hardly an effect on anything.

However, considering the fact that a large amount of Nye's audiences were very young children, his influence has most likely had a much greater impact on them regardless of how small the audience was.

Influential means that it has influence over the things that follow it.
No fucking shit.
Anyways, John Lennon.
I would say Nye just because I know a lot of people (whether seriously or jokingly) is learning to be an Engineer because of him and I've yet to meet someone who wants to become a musician because of Lennon.
Representativeness heuristic, yo

While science is more important than music for the advancement of the world, John Lennon's music continues to be spread to newer generations while a lot of 14 year olds now have probably never even heard of Bill Nye.
If that was true, then Justin Bieber and the likes wouldn't exist.

That's false. Kids still know about the Beatles, it doesn't mean that the only new bands that come about are going to sound like them...

As much as I love Bill Nye, his influence will be short lived. John Lennon has had a much greater impact on music than Bill Nye will have ever had on science.
Did you know that everyone on the NASA project that landed a rover on mars was in science because of bill Nye?
You really really underestimate the impact that he had. While he may never had openly changed or effected science, he made millions of little kids grow up to be scientists. All of those people have vastly affected the scientific community.
Even if his impact is smaller, its more important. Music is a great concept and a great way of helping others, but it in no way can land on the moon, cure cancer, or feed the hungry.

Clearly you've never read the youtube comments on songs that Bieber copied/covered/mixed....
