At least they didn't remove the negative reps on profiles!

I'm going to admit, I am happy for this change. I personally haven't received much -rep, but I just don't see the sense.
That may be a little hypocritical, since I have neg repped quite a few times haha, but regardless. I am happy for this change.

I didn't really state my reasons in my first posts. :p

    1. Will stop people who seem to want negative rep from trying to get it.

    2. Will more likely be less complaints about rep to the mods and admins.

3 I have personally plus repped someone who has -3 on a single post. I think if someone needs -rep it should be just 1 -rep a post not 3 or 7.

I warned you that it would be abused by idjits.

That problem was largely resolved after we banned you and Valentine from being able to use the reputation system.

:lol2: I think a lot of people were abusing rep with the kami12 situation. I personally did not -rep every one of his posts whether it was not spam or not. I -rep like 2.

I don't think it really hurt the forum but neither did it bring much to the table. I definitely don't think it discouraged spam, so I feel sort of ambivalent towards it going. If it makes the select people who felt they were being abused happy then good :)

I'm disappointed that the -rep system is gone as I don't feel like it was ever implemented correctly! I do understand that it is ridiculous to have to tend to all of the complaining when some people get -rep but I think that can be resolved another way. More importantly, I think that we never saw the - rep system all the way through. It was initially supposed to allow users to "down vote" posts and those posts were supposed to go away or be made invisible or some repercussion was to occur from that post. This part of the plan never happened!!! We had posts by people like Kami with -20 or so rep on them and they still stood around...

Of course the -rep system will fail if its only purpose is for fun... I'd like to see - rep back but with actual changes that occur due to the -rep. This could actually help with the issues of trolls because once their post or topic gets -5 rep (for example) no one can see it any more! No more drama! People now have an active incentive not to be idiots...

Kind of ranting here... I'm not heartbroken by the removal of the -rep system... but I really wish that it had been implemented fully at some time over the last 3 months before its removal.

Actually, Cody, the second part of the plan was implemented. You have to set the hiding threshold yourself.
There's a menu on the top right of every thread that says "Showing all posts" (unless you change it :p).

Doh! I wish this had been explained... I doubt many people knew about this. I think it should be changed to automatically make any posts with -3 rep hidden but you can click to show and -5 goes invisible. Any topic that gets -5 or -10 rep should be made invisible. Something like this would actually have actually reduced the amount of trolling posts that we get...

Once again... I'm not really heart broken by the removal of the -rep system but I do think it had a LOT of potential if it was implemented correctly.

It would have only encouraged rep abuse.

    A lot more.

It would have been used to purposefully hide useful threads that we do need and are useful just because someone doesn't like the OP.

It won't be coming back as far as I know so no point keeping this open for discussion.
